Daily Worst: Knicks Embarrassed, Celtics Collapse and Kate Upton Jinxes Thunder

Kelly ScalettaJun 2, 2018

Welcome back to the Daily Worst, where we look at the previous day's action and are not at all afraid to be judgmental. If you were bad, we're going to let you know about it. Here, we look at the worst from the day before. As always, there's our standard disclaimer here—no players or teams were hated in the course of this article, they just happened to be bad.

Worst Fake Out

For every great fake, there's the greatly duped, and Landry Fields bought this one hook, line and sinker. Heck, throw in the bob! He was fully convinced that Thaddeus Young was passing it off. He didn't just buy Thad's pass a tad, he bought it bad.

Worst Blown Defensive Assignment

Dear Golden State Warriors, I would like you to be aware of a young man named Blake Griffin featured at the 1:25 mark of this video. He's kind of, sort of good at the rim, so the next time he's standing there, Mr. Thompson, you might want to rotate.

If at First You Don't Succeed...

The Celtics gave up the last eight points of the game to secure this three-point loss to the Lakers. Their efforts to get the last shot of the game were borderline comical. First, Ray Allen can't even come close to getting off a shot, so he passes it off to Pierce, who is like six feet away.

The same defenders shuffle over to Pierce, who forces up an even worse shot that makes it to the free-throw line. Garnett taps it out to Rondo, who makes like two or three three-point shots a year but forces up a wide open shot (because any three-point attempt by Rondo is forced) rather than pass it off to Allen and misses (of course). So the Celtics tried, tried again, but they failed, failed again.

Give credit to the Lakers' defense, but the Celtics did nothing to try and create a good look for a three-point shooter here. I blame Doc.

Worst Weekend

Things are going from the precipice of all the promise of Linsanity to the depths of reality. The New York Knicks lost to the Milwaukee Bucks on Friday and then were humiliated by the Philadelphia 76ers yesterday 106-94 in a game that wasn't close for most of it. It's more and more clear. Mike D'Antoni and Carmelo Athony cannot coexist.

D'Antoni can't change his offense to work with Anthony's game and Anthony cannot change his game to work with D'Antoni's offense. It's not assigning fault anywhere. You can't fit a square peg in a round hole. That doesn't mean the peg or the hole is wrong, they're just different. One or the other has to go.

Best Worst Distraction

Sports Illustrated swimsuit cover model Kate Upton was at the Thunder game. Here's an interesting stat.

"

When Kate Upton attended the Suns-Thunder contest on Wednesday night in Oklahoma City, fans weren't the only ones distracted by her presence. As The Daily Thunder points out, players from the Suns and Thunder combined to shoot just 39 percent at the basket Upton was located under, compared to shooting 49 percent at the opposite end.

"

Maybe the Thunder need to look at offering her not one, but two season tickets—one for each side of the court. That way she can serve as a distraction on both ends of the court. Heck, she even caused Steve Nash to miss a free throw. Only have her come in costume. She could get Defensive Player of the Year.

Daily Awards

We have two standard awards that we give out. The first is the Baker's Award, which goes to the player who makes the most turnovers. The weekend Baker's Award goes to Jason Terry, who had seven turnovers in Saturday's destruction at the hands of the Warriors.

The other award we give out routinely is the Upchuckers Award, given to the player who tosses up so many bad shots that it makes us want to puke. This weekend's winner is Jeremy Lin, who made only five of his 18 attempts yesterday against Philadelphia.
