NCAA Women's Basketball Bracket 2012: Lady Aggies Are Best Shot to Beat Baylor
If there's anybody that can beat Brittney Griner and the undefeated Baylor Lady Bears, it's the Lady Aggies of Texas A&M.
Now they just have to see if they'll actually meet up with the dominant college basketball force.
There can be no doubting the fact that the Lady Bears are the best team in the nation, and it wouldn't be surprising if they run the table in the tournament and finish as the national champion.
They are the best, and they are led by the best player in the nation in Griner.
The question on everybody's mind is—who can stop them? Is it even worth showing up?
To many, Baylor winning the tournament is a foregone conclusion, but there is one team that could stand in their way if they were to meet.
The Lady Aggies would have the best shot.
This season does nothing to show that, considering Baylor went 3-0 against them this season, but A&M has a simple formula that I believe would play into their favor.
Gary Blair's squad has championship experience and can stop Griner, and that's the key. Not many teams in the tournament can say that, if any.
Mind you, this is the defending national champion Lady Aggies that we're talking about. They have championship experience as well as big-game experience, and that's not something that should be taken lightly in a one-and-done tournament.
They beat Baylor in last year's tournament—granted they were matched up in the same region—so they know that it's possible to do so.
Even though they didn't play well against the Bears this season, they did manage to hold Griner to only 11 points in the Big 12 title game. That has to mean something, considering she had put up 45 the game before that.
If you can stop a team's best player, all the while playing adequate defense against the rest of the squad, you have a chance to win any game.
The Aggies know they can beat Baylor and they know they can stop Griner.
If there's anybody that can do it, it would be them. It just needs to happen once, and that's the beauty of the tournament.
