Atlanta Falcons Great Reveal Comes This Week with Start of Free Agency
Trusting that the Atlanta Falcons new brain trust is doing the right thing takes patience and optimism.
A pessimist might say:
1. Restructure the contract of one of the lowest rated corner backs in the league. Check.

2. Bring in castoffs from a couple of bad teams to play guard and line backer. Be sure to ignore their recent history of injuries. Check.
3. Don't re-sign the top tackler on the team who also happens to be the quarterback of the defense. Check.
4. Sign "Michael Turner-lite" Jason Snelling to a long-term deal when you have the real Michael Turner and Jaquizz Rodgers. Check.
5. Let your top rushing defensive end walk.....etc.
I happen to believe the Falcons know what they are doing.
There is risk in free agency but it is not what it used to be. Years ago the conditions that led to a player leaving a team were not so common. A great player without hidden problems can jump teams in today's NFL. In fact, it is built into the system.
I believe the Atlanta Falcons will make a splash and bring in at least one great player and probably two.
A tight end and some defensive players will come in the draft. Maybe Carl Nicks and Mario Williams are going to be hired in the free agency frenzy that is about to ensue.
There is a lot of competition out there but Arthur Blank and the Falcons can be as persuasive as anyone. I think things will happen fast and we will all be happy with the outcome.
