NFL Free Agency 2012: One Player Each NFC South Team Must Have on the Radar

Brandon Taylor Jun 7, 2018

The NFC South is one of the most intriguing divisions in football. Each team has a star quarterback and each team is only a few pieces away from separating themselves from the rest of the pack.

In this piece, every NFC South team is linked to one player who should be high on their priority list for the upcoming season. One team needs wide receiver help. Another team needs help at linebacker.

Who needs what? Read on to find out.

Carolina Panthers: Jason Jones

1 of 4

The Panthers need to improve their defense to compete and win the NFC South. Jason Jones would upgrade the Panthers' pass rush provided he stays healthy.

Jones is a space-eater at defensive tackle and can get pressure on the quarterback. He can become an elite defensive tackle in the NFL.

Tampa Bay Buccaneers: Vincent Jackson

2 of 4

At 6'5", 230 lbs, Jackson has big-play ability that separates him from other free agent receivers like Marques Colston. Jackson is 29, which may be a negative for some teams, but he will bring it every game.

If Tampa Bay could get Jackson and then add a couple of playmakers in the draft, such as Trent Richardson, then Josh Freeman will be a happy man.

Atlanta Falcons: Carl Nicks

3 of 4

If Nicks leaves the Saints to sign with Atlanta, it will be one of the most underrated moves of the NFL free agency period.

This move would pay huge dividends for the Falcons. It's unlikely that Nicks will re-sign with New Orleans, and Atlanta needs offensive line help to get Matt Ryan to reach his potential.

They have the cap room to sign Nicks

New Orleans Saints: Curtis Lofton

4 of 4

The Saints could afford to upgrade their linebacking corps, and that's without looking at if they decide to release Jon Vilma.

Lofton had a nice season last year, and if the Falcons don't re-sign him, the Saints should have Lofton high on their list.

They can also look at London Fletcher, even though he is likely to re-sign with Washington.
