NFL Rumors: 4 Top Free Agents That Aren't Going Anywhere

David LevinJun 7, 2018

Don't worry, your team is safe. There is nothing to worry about. These players will be calling  their current home a place of residence this coming NFL season.

It may come at the expense of other players. It may come at a hefty price where owners will have to dig deep into their pockets.

But these players are important to their teams as much as anyone else.

These are the players who will quickly come off the free agent board this week.

Carl Nicks, Guard, New Orleans Saints

1 of 4

He is the best guard in football. He is a blocker, a great pass protector and someone Drew Brees needs dearly.

He is more important than the two receivers the team has on the open market in Robert Meachem and Marques Colston.

You can find receivers across the board and on the street. Finding great interior offensive linemen is harder than it looks.

Alex Smith, Quarterback, San Francisco 49ers

2 of 4

He cannot leave after the success he had with the team.

Smith may be a one-hit wonder last season, but after what Jim Harbaugh and the coaching staff did to save his career and make him relevant, he needs to see if he can take the team one further step to the Holy Grail.

Smith will be behind center in the bay area next year.

Curtis Lofton, Linebacker, Atlanta Falcons

3 of 4

The anchor of the Falcons defense and their best linebacker.

Lofton is a run stuffer and can attack the line and rush the passer on the blitz. He is way too valuable for the team to lose.

The Falcons should sign him to a long-term deal. He will be a Falcon for at least the next four years.

Robert Meacham. Wide Receiver, New Orleans Saints

Here is what I am thinking.

Nicks needs to stay put and Drew Brees will do everything in his power to make sure that happens. Whether the Saints go after other free agents on Tuesday remains to be seen.

But I also think the team lets Colston walk so they can afford both Meachem and Nicks and keep most of the offense in check.

I don't see the Saints signing all three remaining free agents.
