Peyton Manning Rumors: Latest Update on Cardinals' Pursuit of Legendary QB

Andrew KulhaJun 7, 2018

Arizona Cardinals head coach Ken Whisenhunt and star receiver Larry Fitzgerald are working hard to convince legendary quarterback Peyton Manning to join their ranks.

They took a well-documented chance on former Philadelphia Eagles quarterback Kevin Kolb last year, but obviously feel that if they can bring Manning into fold, their fate for the 2012-13 season will look much different.

Putting Manning and Fitzgerald together on the same team would be a dream come true for fans of offensive football, and it's been reported that the Cardinals are one of two teams on Manning's short list, along with the Denver Broncos.

Here's the latest update from Arizona via Kent Somers of AZCentral.com:

"

First, the assistant coaches trickled into the Cardinals Tempe facility. Then receiver Larry Fitzgerald arrived. Finally, coach Ken Whisenhunt pulled in with a very important passenger: Peyton Manning.

Manning arrived in the Valley last night and likely will spend a chunk of time here at the facility. I have no idea how long. Cardinals officials have kept a tight lid on this.

Our photographer, Cheryl Evans, caught Whisenhunt and Manning. She'll have photos up soon on azcentral.

I haven't seen Manning's agent, Tom Condon, and it doesn't seem as if he's on this trip with Manning. I don't know if that means negotiations are unlikely to take place. It seems to suggest that.

"

Arizona is obviously going all-in for Manning. Who could blame them?

Manning is arguably the biggest free-agent name ever to hit the open market, and he's undoubtedly the biggest one of his era. He's got a Super Bowl win under his belt and numerous MVP awards.

Some consider him to be one of the best of all-time.

Put him on this team and they go from 8-8 in the NFC West to the undisputed best team in the division. I'd take a healthy Manning over Sam Bradford, Alex Smith and whomever the Seattle Seahawks throw out there any day of the week.

Add in a running game led by Beanie Wells, a good complimentary receiver in Early Doucet and a defense with great potential, and the Cardinals have a nice little promotion package to offer Manning.

Throw in the prospect of playing pitch-and-catch with one of the games best wideouts and the great weather of Arizona, and it all could be too much to pass up on.

The Cardinals can make a good pitch, and everything we're hearing out of Arizona suggest that they're doing all they can.

All they can do now is wait and see if it's enough.
