NFL Rumors: Updated News and Analysis on Peyton Manning's Landing Spots

Ryan PhillipsMar 10, 2012

Now that Peyton Manning is officially a free agent, his whirlwind tour of cities has begun.

On Friday, the four-time MVP visited with the Denver Broncos for six hours and while ending up in Denver doesn't seem likely, the Manning camp could be trying to create leverage against teams like the Arizona Cardinals and Miami Dolphins. The 11-time Pro Bowler would apparently like to make a decision by Tuesday, which means things could be over quickly.

According to the Arizona Republic's Kent Somers, Manning is unlikely to visit the Cardinals on Saturday. Retired quarterback Kurt Warner has a charity event at the team's facility and Somers reports that there are a lot of cameras and people there, which means if Manning showed up then it would be a media circus, something the quarterback has wanted to avoid.

Time could be working against the Cardinals as they will need to get him in and meet with him quickly if they want to remain in contention for his services. Obviously a guy like Larry Fitzgerald will be a big draw to the desert, but Arizona needs to get itself in the mix quickly if the franchise is actually serious about bringing Manning on board.

The presumed leader for Manning for a while has been the Dolphins and according to the Miami Herald, the team would like to see the quarterback throw before offering him a contract. It is unclear how hard they will push for that concession when he visits the team sometime in the coming days.

While there are still other teams that could be in the mix, it is becoming apparent that Arizona and Miami are the most likely destinations for Manning. The Broncos would like to believe they are also involved, and the Kansas City Chiefs and Seattle Seahawks have also expressed interest.

While Miami's chances of landing Manning have apparently lost some steam, I still think the Dolphins are the team to beat. There is no word on when he'll visit South Beach, but it's safe to assume it will be before the weekend is out.
