NBA Rumors: Jason Terry Reveals Mavs' House Divided

Justin WeltonJun 7, 2018

After back-to-back losses to the Phoenix Suns and Sacramento Kings, you have to wonder what exactly is going on with the Dallas Mavericks in 2012. Jeff Caplan of ESPN Dallas tweeted that veteran guard Jason Terry said:

"

Jason Terry: "It's time for a change..." "...We're not a team right now."

— Jeff Caplan (@ESPN_Caplan) March 10, 2012"

Nobody truly knows what's going on in the locker room, but for a veteran to say that "it's time for a change," that signals a red flag in a hurry.

Now, what exactly does that mean? That's the burning question stemming from this comment. Is it simply the fact that this group of players isn't meshing as well as their championship group from last season?

That could very well be the case.

Winning changes everything. When you win games in sports, you have ultimate chemistry. But when you lose games, all questions are raised about cohesion and team effort.

Dallas hasn't been winning like we are accustomed to seeing in recent history. It's a combination of several things: Dirk Nowitzki didn't come prepared to play basketball at a high level, Lamar Odom has been a bust and a distraction and their roster is full of aging superstars like Terry, Jason Kidd, Vince Carter and Shawn Marion.

All of these glaring weaknesses are sticking out because they haven't been able to perform like they did last season.

It is time for a change in Dallas.

Their aging roster suggests that last year was a one-time deal, and this situation does need to have a clear-cut future surrounded by Nowitzki.

Terry's comments prove that there is something missing from the team this season. You can call it a championship hangover if you want, but this is an issue that won't change with the current roster.
