Cadillac Championship 2012 Results: Adam Scott Will Rebound in 3rd Round

Jessica MarieMar 10, 2012

Going into the third round of the 2012 Cadillac Championship, Adam Scott lurks in third place, but that's just fine with him. It's where he wants to be.

This is a guy who doesn't get rattled, even on Friday when, on the eighth hole of the TPC Blue Monster Course at Doral Golf Resort & Spa in Miami, Fla., he double-bogeyed a par 5. This, after he came into Friday's round as the co-leader.

In fact, the only people who should be concerned about Scott lurking in third right now are Bubba Watson and Austin Rose, who are two and one strokes ahead of him, respectively.

After Friday's round, Scott told the Miami Herald's Bill Van Smith

"

"Making double [bogey], I didn't really need that. But I came back well and played a solid back nine. You can't let it bother you too much. I was playing well, and you just have to stay patient."

"

If only every struggling athlete's mental process worked that way.

After his hiccup on the eighth hole, Scott finished strong, birdying four of the last six holes of the round. He saved the best for last, on the 18th hole: He started with a 299-yard drive, hit a 7-iron 156 yards and tapped in a 20-foot putt.

That, fortunately, was what stuck in his mind after the fact—not the long-forgotten double-bogey.

Scott told the Herald:

"

"I really needed some birdies to get myself, or keep myself, within touch of [the leaders]. I felt like I was playing too good to be back six after two days. You've just got to put your head down and make the most of it."

"

Scott tees off at 1:35 p.m. ET on Saturday, and though he has appeared at Doral 11 times, he has yet to win. He finished second in 2006 and sixth last year, but it seems like this mindset—just taking it one swing at a time—will give him as good a shot at victory as anyone.
