Cadillac Championship 2012 Results: Rory McIlroy Ready to Charge Up Leaderboard
Rory McIlroy is ready to climb the leaderboard at the Cadillac Championship after his impressive second round performance helped him climb out of the hole he dug himself following his poor first round.
After a nice start to the second round, McIlroy was not able to turn in a spectacular round and ascent up the leaderboard.
""Well, there was a 62 out there, obviously," said McIlroy, referring to Bubba, who caused the TPC Blue Monster to whimper. "But yeah, especially after the start, I felt I could have -- something in the 60s definitely was out there."
"
McIlroy will need to be more consistent in Round 3 if he wants to win a tournament for the second consecutive week.
Is the pressure of being the world's No. 1-ranked player weighing on his shoulders? Maybe, it's a new level that McIlroy has never been on before.
When you're the top-ranked player, sometimes guys try to do too much because they think they have to dominate every round. McIlroy needs to relax and just play his game. He can't think about the Masters or his world ranking.
McIlroy needs to build off his solid second round performance and be more consistent off the tee and finish his puts better.
He's not out of contention yet, but a subpar round could leave him with a mountain to high to climb on Sunday to get back to the top of the leaderboard.
If McIlroy trusts his game and focuses on each hole with the proper concentration, he will find himself competing for the tournament win on Sunday.
