NBA Rumors: JaVale McGee Not Worth Acquiring Because of Andray Blatche Price Tag

Tim KeeneyJun 6, 2018

Despite his propensity to sprint to the other side of the court when the Washington Wizards still have the ball, JaVale McGee is a great young player.

Sure, McGee may have a good amount of "what the bleep" moments, but he is still just 24 years old and is averaging 8.9 rebounds and a staggering 2.6 blocks per contest in just 27.4 minutes.

He's certainly valuable on the court.

What's more, the young center is only on contract for one more season at just under $3.5 million. Even if teams are nervous about acquiring McGee, he comes with very little risk as far as his contract is concerned.

So, if a playoff team is looking for frontcourt depth or even if a non-playoff team is simply looking to rebuild, why not go after the enigmatic McGee?

Because of Andray Blatche, that's why.

According to ESPN's Marc Stein, McGee is only leaving town if the potential suitor takes Blatche, as well.

"

"But sources say the Wiz are now weighing whether it's time to finally surrender McGee -- who for all his potential still routinely finds himself at the heart of Washington's ongoing turbulence -- on the condition that his new team take Blatche as well."

"

Now, it's not like Blatche isn't talented, because that's far from truth. In fact, the 25-year-old averaged 16.8 points and 8.3 rebounds last year in what appeared to be the first step towards stardom.

But if last year was one step forward, he's taking about 18 back this year.

Before getting injured, Blatche was averaging 9.8 points on 37 percent shooting (yuck) and 6.8 rebounds per game. And it's not just the stats that have made him public enemy No. 1 in Washington.

Blatche plays like he has a date with Adriana Lima (yeah, like that could happen) after the game. He plays with no passion or energy and never seems to want to be there.

He is the definition of a team cancer.

Add on top of that the fact he's under contract until 2015 at about $7.5 million per year, and you've got someone no one in their right mind would want on their team.

Offering up the talented McGee is a smart idea by Washington to try and get Blatche out of town, but the sometimes clueless McGee isn't worth it.
