NFL Rumors: Cortland Finnegan Luring Vincent Jackson into Package Deal?

The top cornerback on the free-agent market is arguably former Tennessee Titan Cortland Finnegan, while the top wide receiver is probably the San Diego Chargers' Vincent Jackson. Could the two guys team up to be a package deal to one lucky franchise?

According to Jason Cole of Yahoo! Sports, Finnegan has been texting Jackson in an attempt to recruit him to go wherever he does. The potential destination at this point appears to be the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. 

Tampa Bay has a need at cornerback, considering that Ronde Barber may retire and Aqib Talib's off-field issues may mean he isn't around much longer, either. Meanwhile, at receiver, the Bucs have young guys like Arrelious Benn and Mike Williams, but Jackson is clearly on another level.

Jackson has been linked to a number of teams as a possibility, but the Chicago Bears, Washington Redskins and Chargers are the teams most often linked to the 29-year-old. The Bears desperately need a vertical threat who can be a consistent target for Jay Cutler, and the Redskins are apparently "intent" on signing a big-name wideout.

That said, Jackson and the Chargers both would like to continue their relationship, and if the price is right, I think he ends up back with the Bolts. San Diego needs to keep Jackson if it wants any hope of competing in the AFC West next season. He is a key piece to what Philip Rivers and the team's offense does.

Jackson wants to be back in San Diego, but it may get to a point where he can't turn down the kind of money he is offered elsewhere.

While this Finnegan-Jackson rumor is fun to discuss, I don't think it's going to happen if Tampa Bay is the destination.
