Toronto Maple Leafs' Mats Sundin Is Selfish

owen hartFeb 25, 2008

To all Toronto Maple Leaf fans out there, I am deeply sorry that your so-called "leader" as taken one for himself.

A leader is someone who should do the right things for the team. The right thing in this situation was to take the trade to the Anaheim Ducks for Bobby Ryan and two first-round draft picks. This would have helped the Leafs’ future and Sundin still could come back in the off season and resumed his "legendary" career as a Leaf.

The Toronto Media claimed Sundin as a “leader” and a “winner.”

Look at the man's career; a winner? oh come on! The only thing that man has won has been apart of the SWEDEN national teams.

The only time that man participates at 100 percent all the time is when he wears the three crowns on that yellow jersey.

A leader maybe, but this was his chance to step up and be a WORLD class leader and make "HIS" team better.

A chance to gain and have a chance at both Stamkos and Daughty by acquiring the first-round pick from Anaheim (formerly of Edmonton) was a chance that any team would die for.

Two top five picks along with the young players Toronto already have ( Tlusty, Coliacovo, White, Stralmen, Kaberle, Toskala n Pogge) is a great way to build.

One last major comment, if Sundin is such a great leader, what do you think it tells everyone when he turns down a chance regardless if it is Anaheim, Detroit, or San Jose, to win a Stanley Cup.

A leader my ass. Like Don Cherry said every team that wins Stanley Cups is mostly what? CANADIAN! They have the heart and desire to win, where these Euro's do not have that. The only thing they have the heart and desire to win is Olympic Gold or World Championships glory.

In the end, Sundin is selfish, does not deserve to be even resigned by the team next year due to this act and should retire because he is past his prime.

Move back to Sweden, eat your meatballs, and grow old.
