ACC Tournament 2012 Predictions: Tar Heels Pursuit of Top Seed Won't Be Derailed

With another win in the books, the North Carolina Tar Heels' pursuit of the ACC title and a No. 1 seed in the NCAA tournament is looking good.

The Tar Heels downed the Maryland Terrapins in the quarterfinals of the ACC tournament, once again convincing anyone who is watching that they are looking like the team to beat.

There is no secret that there is another strong team on the other side of the bracket in the Duke Blue Devils, but following their epic season-ending game, the ball is in the Tar Heels' court.

The two played each other on March 3 at Cameron Indoor Stadium, where the Tar Heels destroyed the Blue Devils on their home court 88-70.

It was a convincing statement for the Tar Heels heading into the ACC tourney, as well as the NCAA's. With so much momentum right now, it is hard to imagine the team being stopped in their pursuit of grabbing the ACC title and a No. 1 seed for whichever region they are assigned.

Forward John Henson did go down with an injury in the matchup against the Terrapins, so it will remain to be seen how he will be able to play going forward.

Averaging 14.2 points per game while grabbing 10.3 rebounds this season, the potential loss of Henson could make things a little more difficult for the Tar Heels in the next two rounds.

They did have solid play from James Michael McAdoo in relief, so at least they can be hopeful that their depth will step up while their key contributors will continue to up their play.

If the strong performances continue to pile in, it is hard to imagine the Tar Heels falling back anytime in the near future.
