USMNT: Top 10 Tweets of the Week (Vol. 1)

Christopher HallJun 2, 2018

What do you do when you're young, gifted and famous? You open a Twitter account and tell the world your business of course.

Musicians, actors or athletes, everyone needs to let off a little steam now and then. For those of us who cover U.S. soccer, we're just happy that so many of the players choose to do it so publicly.

Here are the 10 tweets of the week from the player pool of the U.S. National Team.

No. 10: Landon Donovan Makes Clint Dempsey Feel Old

1 of 10

Guys sometimes have trouble reaching out and telling people they care. So it was nice to see @LandonDonovan showing a little love on @clint_dempsey's special day:

"Happy Birthday @clint_dempsey Almost to the Dirty Thirty Club! #PlaysLikeHeIsTwenty"

Let's just hope Deuce isn't sensitive about his age.

No. 9: Jurgen Klinsmann Bats His Lashes at a Central Defender

2 of 10

Everyone loves when former mentors tell them they've done well. So I'm sure Chicago Fires' newest defender was thrilled with this note from his old boss, @J_Klinsmann:

"Thrilled to see Arne Friedrich, former player of mine from the #DFB, joining @ChicagoFire. He has great character & he’s a real team giver!"

It's either a really nice sentiment or Klinsmann thinks a transfer to MLS makes the German World Cup veteran eligible for the Nats.

No. 8: Geoff Cameron's Boot Scootin' Boogie

3 of 10

Whether he was just watching or found out for himself, @GeoffCameron doesn't let on whether he's one of the people with rhythm or without:

"Must say country dancing is for people that have no rhythm (stiff) #oopsdidijustsaythat #justsaying #justkidding"

No. 7: Clint Dempsey Quotes Socrates

4 of 10

I never pegged @clint_dempsey for the philosophical type. So color me shocked when he pulled out a quote from Socrates:

"All Men's Souls Are Immortal, But The Souls Of The Righteous Are Immortal And Divine. (Socrates) #watchingimmortals"

So he saw it in a movie. I'm giving him credit anyway.

No. 6: Sacha Kljestan Cheerleads

5 of 10

He's found himself coming off the bench lately for Jurgen Klinsmann, but @SachaKljestan is happy to back his teammates.

"@HerculezG Congrats on your goals dudes! Looked like a good game"

"@brad_evans3 Good luck tonight bro! I will be cheering for you guys"

He's alright for now. But if anyone sees pom-poms, we're staging an intervention.

No. 5: Nick Rimando's a Big Boy Now

6 of 10

Every parent has been there. You've spent all week talking to your kids, potty training, cleaning up after them. Then you get around adults and say something from your little kid world that makes people look at you funny. @NickRimando had one of those moments this week.

"I feel so grown-up when I use the taller urinal in the restroom. #randomfact"

Either Nick's regressed to childhood or his son has started tweeting for him.

No. 4: DaMarcus Beasley's Behind the Times

7 of 10

Whether you were still carrying a beeper in 2005, or you thought U.S. President Bush sounded smart talking about "the Internets", everyone finds themselves behind the times occasionally. It was no different this week for @DaMarcusBeasley:

"I promise I have lost almost half of my bbm contacts due to iphone! Guess it's about time to join the party! See what the fuss is about.."

While we're at it, will someone stop by DaMarcus' house and swap out the VCR and Commodore 64?

No. 3: Carlos Bocanegra's Deuce

8 of 10

Constipation is no one's idea of a joke. So you can imagine @BocaBoca3's relief that led him to post this to his trusted buddy.

"On a lighter note.. The Deuce is Looooooose!! @clint_dempsey"

My editor says I may be taking this out of context. But really, what else could he have been talking about?

No. 2: Jozy Altidore Not Impressed with Messi's 5-Goal Game

9 of 10

The U.S. striker has been pouring in the goals in Holland this season. So it's perhaps a bit understandable that @JozyAltidore would see Lionel Messi's five-goal Champions League outburst and shrug:

"Not even impressed by what Messi does anymore lol its becoming so normal to see him dominate like this."

Hold on, my editor's yelling again. Something about reading the entire post. I'll see what he wants later.

No. 1: Nick Rimando Takes a Close Look at His Priorities

10 of 10

We've all got to multitask. Different priorities pull at us all day long. But at some point we have to choose. Since I didn't read about @NickRimando flaking out on training this week with Real Salt Lake, I'm assuming his TiVo system was working.

"So excited to train at our new training facility tomorrow but so anxious to see #Courtney in the hot seat. #RSL #bachelor #delay"

I'd make a crack about Rimando's Bachelor addiction, but there's a Real Housewives marathon about to start, so I've got to wrap this up.

See you all next week.
