Dwight Howard Trade Rumors: Latest Vegas Odds on Superman's Next NBA Home

Matt ShetlerJun 2, 2018

We're down to six days before the NBA's March 15 trade deadline approaches and there's still been no solution in the soap opera between the Orlando Magic and All-Star center Dwight Howard.

Before any big trades happen—if they happen—Howard is going to have to be the first domino to drop.

Vegas is trying to cash in on the action as well, with a few prop bets on all the stars that could be dealt by Thursday's deadline.

According to Bovada Sports Book, the current odds on Howard being dealt are plus-200 (2-to-1), but the favorite in the situation is the Orlando Magic holding on to their superstar as they list the odds of that of happening at minus-150.

However, I will break that down even further and take a look at the individual odds of each team linked to Howard and their chances of landing the superstar (NOTE: These odds have no affiliation with any Vegas site and are simply my opinions).

With that being said, let's take a look.

Dallas Mavericks

Dallas is a team on Howard's list, but they have nothing at all to offer in a trade. No chance the Magic even consider a deal here.

Although the odds on the Mavericks signing Howard as a free agent next season if he isn't dealt are much better.

Odds to acquire Howard: 1,000 to 1

The Rockets are the latest team looking to acquire the big man without an assurance that he will sign a long-term deal to remain in Houston.

This is an extreme long shot and Brian K. Schmitz from Magic Insider says any deal would have to include point guard Kyle Lowry.

I can't see Houston offering up Lowry without a deal in place for Howard.

Odds to land Howard: 500 to 1

Atlanta is Howard's hometown, but there's very little chance here as well.

With a bad ownership group and not much allure to convince Howard to stay in Orlando, there's very little chance this happens.

Howard has wanted Orlando to acquire Josh Smith, but as Josh Robbins tweets, there's very little chance of Magic general manager Otis Smith acquiring him without dealing Howard.

Odds to land Howard: 400 to 1

Mark Jackson's Warriors remain in the hunt and they are another team Howard hasn't said he would sign with.

Golden State has a need for a big man and could offer up a very nice package centered around Monta Ellis. It's another case where Golden State won't deal Ellis if they can't acquire Howard.

Smith has said he would take the best deal available and wouldn't limit it to Howard's list.

With that being said, the Warriors still have a chance, though not a good one.

Odds to land Howard: 100 to 1

Could Mitch Kupchak still make a splash? The Lakers are a team that Howard suddenly won't sign an extension with, but they still have Andrew Bynum and Pau Gasol they could deal.

If the Lakers keep struggling, Kupchak could get desperate and make a deal, hoping a lengthy playoff run could convince Howard to stay.

Odds to land Howard: 20 to 1

There's the chance that Smith gives in at the deadline and gives Howard his wish: a trade to New Jersey. The Brook Lopez injury puts a damper on that, but the Nets can still offer the best package of players, draft picks and cap relief that the Magic are looking for.

Odds to acquire Howard: 5 to 1

Orlando Magic

The smart money would be on the possibility that Orlando holds onto Howard and rolls the dice that they can sign him in the offseason.

Technically the Magic are still in contention in the east, which puts Smith in a tough spot.

Odds to keep Howard: Even Money
