ACC Tournament 2012: Virginia Tech Hokies Are Dangerous and Have Nothing to Lose

Alex KayJun 2, 2018

No one thought the Virginia Tech Hokies had a chance coming into the ACC tournament as the No. 10 seed.

However, they are now primed and ready to play Duke in the quarterfinals tonight and have absolutely nothing to fear or hold back.

This is a team that knows it has no shot of going to the tournament unless it wins out. Above all else, this team just wants revenge for a poor 15-16 season and an atrocious 4-12 conference record.

They get another crack at the Duke Blue Devils tonight in the quarterfinals after having already pushed that team to the brink. VTech lost in overtime, 70-65, in a game that easily could have gone their way.

Based on ESPN’s Edward Aschoff’s findings, you certainly can’t say this group doesn’t have the swag or heart to actually win this time around.

"

"We've been talking about it for the two days that we've been here. We're like, 'Unpack your bags, we're going to be here a while,'" senior guard Dorenzo Hudson said following Virginia Tech's thrilling 68-63 win over Clemson in the first round. "We're trying to advance in the tournament."

"

The Hokies are going to have to get ready to play another grueling 40 minutes of basketball and possibly more in OT if they want to escape the Dukies this time.

They are up against a team that has won 10 of the past 15 ACC tournament titles and are a force to be reckoned with in March.

Fortunately, Virginia Tech has their back to the wall and can only come out swinging with nothing to lose tonight. It’s going to be a bloodbath down in Atlanta.

Find out if they can pull off the upset tonight at 7 p.m. on ESPN2.
