One Outcome of Every Peyton Manning Signing Scenario
The Peyton Manning sweepstakes has begun. It is likely to be the most captivating and intriguing story in NFL free agency since Brett Favre un-retired from his second retirement and Terrell Owens pissed off one of his former teams.
Peyton is one of the greatest quarterbacks of all time; his first name alone is synonymous with success, hard work, and victory. It is also synonymous with the Indianapolis Colts, which is why seeing #18 in a different uniform will be a strange adjustment for many.
Wherever Peyton goes, however, one thing is for certain - his impact will be felt. His arrival will mean changes for whatever team he goes to, and here are some possible things that may happen for each team, given the potential signing of Mr. Manning.
If He Signs with the Seattle Seahawks...
1 of 5If Peyton signs with the Seattle Seahawks, which seems like an extremely unlikely scenario at this point, then tight end Dallas Clark would also make the move to Seattle.
Many thought that Clark and Reggie Wayne would join Manning wherever he went, yet Wayne has since resigned with the Indianapolis Colts.
Should Peyton make a very surprising move and head to Seattle, expect Clark to join him, given Seattle's lack on any established receiving options.
If He Signs with the Denver Broncos...
2 of 5Tim Tebow, welcome (back) to Florida!
That's right, should Peyton sign with Denver, then you can expect Tim Tebow to be shipped off, most likely to the Jacksonville Jaguars.
The Broncos' reason for making this move would be eliminate the media storm that would more than likely be distracting to their success. Tebow is one of the most polarizing and talked about figures in sports, and the presence of both him and Peyton on one time would be the perfect storm.
For the Jaguars, this move would also make tremendous sense. Winning is great, but what Jacksonville really needs to do is sell tickets. Their attendance is pitiful. Tebow is from Florida, is wildly popular in the state, and would almost surely up their ticket sells. In addition, Tebow would give the Jaguars a legitimate shot to contend in the fairly competitive AFC South.
If He Signs with the Miami Dolphins...
3 of 5If Peyton signs with Miami, (I refuse to say "bring his talents to South Beach") then former Texas A&M quarterback Ryan Tannehill will be drafted by the Arizona Cardinals with the 13th overall pick in the draft.
Tannehill is not getting much attention from the media and the analysts, thanks to Andrew Luck and Robert Griffin III. Alas, he is a well-rounded quarterback with tremendous athleticism and the ability to be a franchise player in the NFL.
In most mock drafts at the moment, the Dolphins are slated to take Tannehill with their eighth pick. Should they sign Peyton, I don't expect them to draft a quarterback in the first round. Most likely, their first round pick would become OT Riley Reiff.
If He Signs with the Arizona Cardinals...
4 of 5Then Kevin Kolb officially becomes the biggest waste of money in the NFL.
That above statement is 100 percent true, but speaking seriously, I think the Peyton-to-Arizona scenario would result in running back Joe Addai also signing with the Cardinals in the desert.
Addai hasn't been much to gawk at the last couple of seasons; largely, this can be attributed to his struggle to stay healthy. When feeling good, however, Addai has proved that he can be a 1,000 yard, 10 touchdown runner.
With Addai possibly having the chance to play in a Peyton Manning system in a new city, he could be looking forward to a revival in 2012.
If He Signs with the Washington Redskins...
5 of 5Then he will be overpaid.
Hopefully all of you sports nerds (like myself) got that joke. We'll have to wait and see where Peyton signs. One scenario that is true for wherever he signs, however, is that his new team becomes a contender.
