WWE News: Major Update on The Rock's Wrist Notes, Legit Beef with John Cena
Is it scripted or not?
I, like many others, have been debating that about the promos we’ve seen between The Rock and John Cena—whether they are works, shoots or some combination of both. But I’ve grown to accept them for what they really are: Entertaining.
Still, I know that there are plenty of wrestling fans out there wondering exactly what’s going on between two of the biggest stars in WWE history. Is The Rock going off-script on Cena, or vice versa? And are Cena’s criticisms of The Rock getting to the “People’s Champ?”

Here’s a huge update on that never-ending debate.
From WrestleZone.com:
"WZ has learned that John Cena referencing The Rock having notes on his wrist, which were visible on RAW, was not a planned part of the show.
There was much speculation that it was scripted for Cena to call out The Rock's notes, but that appears to be incorrect. The Rock legitimately had the notes to refer to if needed for his lengthy live promo. As WZ columnist Mark Madden wrote, it is something The Rock has done for years.
"
You know, if you go back and watch video of that promo, The Rock looks extremely pissed when Cena mentions the wrist notes. And—not to criticize The Rock—but I just don’t think he’s that good of an actor to look that pissed. I just think that Cena really ticked him off.
I’m sure it bothered The Rock that Cena apparently exposed a secret that he’s been hiding for his entire career:
"I spoke to a source close to the situation who reminded me of last year when John Cena responded to one of the taped promos The Rock did where Cena made mention of being able to the see the teleprompter The Rock was reading off of in the reflection.
It seems that the improvised comments revealing some of the tricks The Rock uses to perform his promos is one of the best public examples of the genuine animosity between The Rock and John Cena. The source says there are other comments they make on-air about one another that are “just as surprising” as Cena making mention of the notes, the difference being the notes on the wrist comment is unusual for fans to hear in a wrestling promo.
"
To be honest, I don’t know if I really believe this report. While I’m not calling into question the integrity of the writer here, it just seems like someone would have noticed that The Rock does this at some point during his career.
I mean, the man has cut hundreds of promos, so how his little wrist notes were never mentioned before Cena brought them up is beyond me. Maybe someone can go back and look for wrist notes in some of The Rock’s old promos, but I doubt they’ll find anything.
While I’m sure there is some genuine animosity between The Rock and Cena for some reason or another, I don’t think we’ll ever be 100 percent that this is it.
Whatever. It’s making for phenomenal TV, so I’m just going to enjoy it.
