2013 Notre Dame Football Recruiting: Top Commits, Players Considering the Irish
Notre Dame is coming into this 2012 college football season looking to make a major jump in the Brian Kelly era. The Irish landed a top-10 class in the 2012 recruiting year and surely are looking to better that feat in 2013.
For this read, I'm going to just take a look at a couple 2013 prospects that are among the nation's elite that are looking hard at playing in South Bend. I'll give you who I feel is the Irish's top committed player already in the 2013 class.
Let's get started.
Top Commitment: Steve Elmer, OT
1 of 6Elmer is going to be a starter on the Irish OL within the next two seasons; he's that good. 6'6" and nearly 300 pounds, he shows easy movement in his sets, great athletic ability and is very light on his feet for a big man.
Look for him to man either an LT or RT spot and be a fixture on the Irish front for years to come. Elmer committed to Notre Dame as a junior last fall and is a 4-star OT, according to Scout.com
He's a prime-time commit for the Irish.
Nation's Top Tight End Has Irish in His Top 4
2 of 6Adam Breneman is the top TE in the country, as he sits No.1 in the Scout 1 rankings and is a 5-star prospect.
Breneman, a Pennsylvania native, will be making his college announcement tomorrow night at 7 p.m. Notre Dame, Penn State, Ohio State and Maryland are in the top four for the 6'5", 220-pound pass catching TE.
Although I think Penn State wins out here, Breneman has reportedly been impressed with the way Notre Dame has recruited him and seems pretty interested in the idea of playing for the Golden Domers.
Irish Also Recruiting Hutchings Hard Too
3 of 6Michael Hutchings, the 5-star linebacker from De La Salle High School in NorCal, also is getting recruited by Notre Dame.
The 6'1", 210-pounder tells Scout.com that the Irish, along with USC, Oregon and Washington, are showing him the most love at the moment.
Notre Dame will have to stay on him to make sure they pry him out of California for a visit to South Bend.
Irish Offer California Running Back
4 of 6Justin Davis, the 5-star RB prospect from Stockton, Calif., has gained an offer from Notre Dame.
USC, Michigan, Cal, Florida State and Oklahoma are among the other top-notch programs to extend an offer to the 6'1", 200-pound rock toter.
Davis ran for over 2,000 yards and scored 39 TDs as a junior last season.
Golden Domers Want Indy Linebacker to Play the CAT Position
5 of 6Jaylon Smith, a Hoosier stater, is a 6'3", 225-pound LB prospect that had 55 stops last season with nine sacks to add.
Smith took a recent trip to South Bend, where he had a chance to sit in with Irish defensive chief Bob Diaco, who explained to the prep LB that he would be a CAT defender should he sign with the Irish.
Smith's brother, Rod, plays for Ohio State, and the Buckeyes have offered. Look for a decision to be made this summer.
Prime Prospect: Ty Isaac, RB
6 of 6One of the top players in the country and ranked as the No.1 RB in the nation by Scout.com, Ty Isaac is a 6'3", 215-pound RB prospect from Illinois.
He shows great hands as a receiver out of the backfield, breakaway speed, quick feet, run instincts and elusiveness.
Isaac recently visited Notre Dame, where he spoke with assistant Tony Alford, Chuck Martin and head coach Brian Kelly. He characterized the visit as "good."
Stay tuned.
