Peyton Manning Rumors: L.T. Says Mark Sanchez Wouldn't Accept Backup Role

According to the latest reports from NFL.com, LaDainian Tomlinson is talking Jets football once again, this time saying that Mark Sanchez wouldn't accept playing second fiddle to Peyton Manning if he ended up going to New York.

In my opinion, I don’t know if he’d handle it well. Tomlinson said. I think he’d probably go in and maybe ask to be released. Rightfully so, he would be a little mad. That’s all a part of it.

At the same time, if he could grow up a little bit and try to learn from somebody like Peyton Manning, then maybe in a couple years, if they did decide to go with Manning, he could learn from that and then also be the (starter) again.

"

Tomlinson hasn't been shy about voicing his opinion in the past, saying the Jets locker room is "poisonous." 

In that same interview, when asked about if Sanchez was pampered in New York, Tomlinson said: "Yes he is, I would say a bit pampered because he has no competition. He has no real threat to say this guy may take my job."

If Manning showed up in the Jets locker room, I'm guessing the threat would be real enough.

While I'm not going to take L.T.'s word as gospel in this situation, I'm at least going to agree to the point of saying: Sanchez clearly needs something to change for him, or he's going to go the way of Alex Smith of the San Francisco 49ers pre-Harbaugh.

Perhaps bringing in the legend from Indy is just what the doctor ordered for Sanchez. Who knows; maybe it's the key to saving his career?

Whatever the case may be, the Jets are in the mix for Manning, and the next few days are going to be filled with all kinds of speculation and rhetoric that won't really matter much, though we'll all be helpless to stop consuming every single minute morsel that comes through our twitter feed.
