Arizona State Football Recruiting: The Top 2013 in-State Recruits Who Can't Slip

Jeff ChaseJun 7, 2018

One of the key parts of being a successful head coach of a college football program is the ability to recruit in-state talent. For Arizona State Sun Devils head coach Todd Graham, that will be his biggest challenge heading into his first season as the coach of this team.

He already made a huge splash this past offseason nabbing athlete D.J. Foster, and he will look to continue that trend going into next year's signings.

These five in-state recruits can't slip through the cracks of ASU's grasp for 2013 and beyond.

Chans Cox, LB

1 of 5

Chans Cox out of Blue Ridge High School in Lakeside is one of the top linebacker recruits in the country.

He is currently ranked 40th amongst the entire class, and could be an important piece to the Sun Devils future success.

The Sun Devils will have a lot of competition for his talents, as teams like Arizona and Oregon already have him on their radar.

Not only that, out-of-conference teams like Notre Dame and Alabama, just to name a few, have been fond of going after the highly touted Arizona linebacker.

Priest Willis, DB

2 of 5

With inconsistent results in 2011, the Arizona State Sun Devils should always be looking to improve their secondary.

Priest Willis of Marcos De Niza High School in Tempe is the 84th-ranked prospect in the country, and it would be hard to imagine coach Graham failing to nab this stud cornerback from the school's own city.

Willis has garnered a lot of interest from many different teams, as he currently has been offered by schools like Oklahoma, Oklahoma State, Notre Dame and LSU just to name a few.

It certainly won't be easy for Graham to sign him, but hopefully he will see some sense in staying by where he has played for quite some time.

Devon Allen, WR

3 of 5

Out Phoenix comes Devon Allen, a 6'1" wide receiver who help improve the Sun Devils receiving corps down the line.

The Sun Devils do have a lot of young receivers, but by the time 2013 comes around, most of them will be juniors or seniors.

The Sun Devils will need to jump onto Allen quick, as he has already been offered a scholarship from Big 12 powerhouse Oklahoma State.

There is plenty of time to sway his interest, but it appears the team better get on it quickly before it is too late.

Kenny Lacy, OT

4 of 5

While it remains to be seen if coach Graham will be successful in changing the culture of this offensive line, the more new blood he brings in the better.

With Kenny Lacy out of Mountain Pointe in Phoenix, the Sun Devils could grab themselves one of the top offensive tackle recruits in the state, as well the No. 122 recruit in the entire nation.

Lacy will likely hear from a lot of schools as the season gets going, but the Sun Devils can't get a top-talent lineman like this get away.

Graham is going to need to bring in some of the best to change the culture of this penalty machine, and Lacy will be a nice piece to get that rolling.

Jalen Ortiz, ATH

5 of 5

Jalen Ortiz is a 4-star recruit coming out of Centennial High School in Peoria, and the dual-star athlete could really be a nice piece to add to the Sun Devils in 2013 and beyond.

While he plays both defensive back and running back, Ortiz could be a nice complement to recent signee D.J. Foster.

The two would be an elusive combination for the Sun Devils, and could really help bolster coach Graham's offensive attack.

The team will need as much firepower as they can get in this offensively-driven division, so grabbing elusive players like Ortiz is a no-brainer.
