Steve Nash Trade Rumors Tracker: Latest Updates on Phoenix Suns Superstar
Steve Nash is a popular name being thrown around in trade rumors for teams desperate to get an elite point guard before the trading deadline.
The 38-year-old is still playing at an extremely high level for the rebuilding Phoenix Suns. The two-time NBA MVP is averaging an amazing 13.8 points, 10.9 assists and 3.1 rebounds despite being stuck on a franchise that is overachieving and still just 17-20 as of March 7.
His contract expires at the end of the season and it’s widely expected that Nash will sign a short-term deal with a contending team to do one of the few things he has yet to accomplish in his illustrious career—win a ring.
Here are the latest rumors concerning Nash and teams that might be interested in prying him away from Phoenix before the trade deadline.
Update: Wednesday, March 7 at 4:30 p.m. EDT
There isn’t a whole lot of interest for Nash at this time, but the Dallas Mavericks may be considering gauging Phoenix’s interest in Lamar Odom for their elite PG.
Dwain Price of the Fort Worth Star-Telegram was the first to report the news over a week ago and it has yet to be confirmed or denied.
It doesn’t make sense for the Suns to do this however, as they likely could get a much better package of youthful players and draft picks over a disgruntled 32-year-old forward who has contemplated retirement.
Another interesting rumor is that the Portland Trail Blazers want to find out how to acquire the Suns’ future Hall of Famer.
Marc Stein has found sources that confirm the Blazers have been interested in Nash for some time and are trying to pry him away now that the Raymond Felton experiment has clearly failed.
It’s unknown who they would package, but they have a good combination of young talent and draft picks.
