WWE Raw: Is Zack Ryder Back to His Goofball Character Again?
Well, it looks like Zack Ryder is back to "square one" in this company.
After changing his entire body of work the past few months, he was brought back to Raw this week. In his first appearance back in weeks, it was already a very disappointing sign for his future.
It reminds me of Christian and Alberto Del Rio returning at Elimination Chamber. What was the point again? If only WWE had a reason to bring them back and not "just because..."

Back to Ryder. He was last seen looking about as weak as you can get without leaving the company. Somebody like John Morrison, for example; that made sense.
Ryder was beaten down in a brutal fashion on a weekly fashion by Kane. John Cena was made to look superior to him in every way throughout the winter (as he should). Of course, his relationship with Eve Torres was also factored in.
This all had to be leading to something, right?
Ryder being on a stretcher multiple times. Losing his United States title. Eve turning him down. Kane destroying him with ease.
Surely, Ryder would return to defeat Kane at WrestleMania, and the Zack Pack would rejoice!
Yeah...
Kane is now in a feud with Randy Orton. Jack Swagger just dropped the US title to Santino Marella. John Cena has completely distanced himself from Ryder and is ready to take on The Rock in the biggest match of this generation.
Ryder in all of this?
Well, he came back, made a joke, was kissed by Eve (the girl who made him out to be a fool for months) and then he smiled.
Wow! As I have covered for months, Ryder has never equaled ratings. Just like his segment quarter-hour ratings, it seems as if his character is about to hit a new low.
Him reverting him to his "comedy" routine at this point would not only be disappointing, it would be sad for his fans and non-fans alike.
His run back in December was so well-done. Cena helped him like a million bucks, and his quest to the United States Championship at TLC was a thing of beauty.
He was focused. He was hungry. He was determined. He was serious!
Now? He seems to be going back in time to become a punchline again. That is not the character change I want to see in this guy.
I have said it a million times, but he is very talented. He is solid in the ring. He has charisma, and his fanbase is very loyal (almost to a fault).
On the flip side, his YouTube series is still going on, and the same "jokes" are still being told. At least WWE bought the rights to his show, as I was told they wanted back in August.
To see him take so many strides to being a legitimate competitor only to fall back in line is the last thing I want to see. The man is a great asset to WWE, and all he needs to do is remove himself from the comedy going forward!
The only saving grace is if Zack is now "playing" Eve back. Acting like he has forgiven her? Setting her up for something down the line? That would be an excellent way to even the score, but I do have my doubts that is the plan.
