Peyton Manning to Kansas City Chiefs Would Finally Solve Team's QB Woes

Tim DanielsJun 7, 2018

The Kansas City Chiefs are expected to be one of several teams who will attempt to convince Peyton Manning to make their city his new home. Based on quarterback play the franchise has received over the past handful of years, Manning would be an enormous upgrade.

It's a fact that hasn't been lost on new Chiefs coach Romeo Crennel, according to ESPN's Bill Williamson. Crennel will be looking to make a major splash in his return to head coaching duties after a failed stint with the Cleveland Browns.

"

Of course, Kansas City coach Romeo Crennel did nothing to take the scent off a potential Chiefs-Manning pairing when he said this at the NFL Combine last Saturday: “With a talent like that, I would be crazy not to consider it if he’s available. I’ll leave it at that.”

Think about some of the quarterbacks to spend time under center for Kansas City recently. Damon Huard, Brodie Croyle, Tyler Thigpen and Tyler Palko just to name a few. In other words, it hasn't been a pretty sight.

Matt Cassel, who was brought in from the New England Patriots after filling in for Tom Brady, has had some promising moments, but not consistently enough to believe he will lead the franchise to great things.

He'd be a nice safety-net option to have on the roster since Manning's health is still a question mark. That said, his presence shouldn't stop the front office from putting all their eggs in No. 18's basket.

Manning is the type of player who can transform an entire team from pretender to contender, as he illustrated with the Indianapolis Colts. Without him, the Colts suffered a rapid fall from grace and now must hope Andrew Luck can lead a rebuilding effort.

The Chiefs have a far more complete roster than Indianapolis had in recent seasons when Manning was still finding a way to lead them to the postseason. They also possess the 11th overall pick to add another talented piece to the equation.

Dwayne Bowe, Steve Breaston and Jonathan Baldwin would all benefit from playing with a record-breaking quarterback like Manning. Nobody would be more happy than Bowe, who received the franchise tag and will be looking to put up monster numbers before potentially hitting free agency.

Since the NFL continues to shift toward high-powered offenses, having an elite quarterback is more important than ever.

Kansas City hasn't had one in quite some time, but signing Manning would finally put an end to the drought.
