Lakers Rumors: Power Ranking Point Guards LA Should Trade For
As the March 15 NBA trade deadline approaches, the Los Angeles Lakers' biggest need is for help at the point guard position, and some of the players they have been linked too are much better than others.
Nobody knows for sure what the Lakers intend to do, but it's pretty clear the need to make a move before the deadline to improve the team.
If the Lakers are serious about winning a title again, they best move they can make is adding a point guard.
That being said, here are their top three options in terms of the best player.
Rajon Rondo
While acquiring Rondo would come at a steep price, there is no denying he is the top point guard up for grabs.
Eric Pincus of Hoops World first put out there that a Rondo for Pau Gasol trade would be the way to get things done.
Parting ways with Gasol is a tough call to make, but if it brings them Rondo then it could definitely be worth it.
I don't see this deal happening, especially given how important Rondo is to the Boston Celtics. However, he is the best point guard that's been on the trade block, and the Lakers would still remain elite if they landed him.
Ramon Sessions
The Cleveland Cavaliers and Lakers almost had a deal done, according to the Los Angeles Times.
Unfortunately, LA wasn't willing to give up a first-rounder for Sessions.
Still, this deal remains a strong possibility, and it's one that would work out very well. The Lakers would get to keep Gasol and bring in a strong point guard capable of significantly helping the offense.
Sessions is doing a great job in backup role right now, and joining the Lakers as a starter would do wonders for him and LA. This is a move the Lakers need to seriously think about focusing on the most because out of the most realistic options, this one is the best.
Raymond Felton
According to Sporting News, the Lakers have been in talks with the Portland Trail Blazers in a deal for Felton.
While the point guard hasn't been as strong this season as he has in the past, he's still a very solid option for the Lakers.
Currently averaging nine points and six assists on the year, those numbers will definitely increase if he joined the Lakers.
Getting the chance to play with Kobe Bryant would help Felton's game, and it would also make the Lakers a much more dangerous team.
Another point guard the Lakers have been linked to is Kirk Hinrich, and to me he makes the most sense because he's the strongest option for the cheapest price.
While the three guys above are better players, none would come at a cheap of a price as Hinrich, who would contribute very well on defense while making good plays on offense.
The Lakers have also been linked with Jose Calderon, Jarrett Jack, Goran Dragic, Jonny Flynn, A.J. Price and Gilbert Arenas.
