Bo Pelini: Nebraska Coach Talks College Football Playoffs and Moon Landings

Spring football is here, which means coaches are once again forced to answer questions with the media.

It isn’t easy pretending you actually enjoy discussing a realigned depth chart, the progress of an athlete (which, at this point, is completely unknown), and, of course, a college football playoff. Coaches do it anyway, however, and still manage not to throw a trident at the third person that’s asks about changes on the coaching staff.

Nebraska head coach Bo Pelini partook in this exercise, and he was asked about his thoughts regarding a college football playoff at his annual spring press conference. The results were nothing short of pure brilliance.

"You know what I always say is, you hear a lot of different things and you hear things about a playoff. Find one that makes sense and give me a plan. There is a lot of theory and theoretical things. I could end up on the moon tomorrow. That's probably not going to happen. Let's get something that is workable, and every proposal that has been put out there has repercussions.”

What I truly love about Bo Pelini, other than the fact that he can make this facial expression more than a dozen times in a single game, is how nonchalantly he brought space into the discussion and then abandoned the reference only a sentence later. That takes talent, folks.

He brought the moon in the spotlight, only for a brief moment, and like that it was gone. This just happens to be the first time that discussion of the moon has surfaced in college football playoff discussions, although it likely won’t be the last.

In fact, Pac-12 commissioner Larry Scott is currently researching the proper spacesuit football ensemble after getting word that the topic of space was being discussed by a coach in another conference.
