What Arsenal Really Needs

Dorjan MucaJan 10, 2009

With the way Arsenal's season has gone this year; everyone talks about our defensive struggles. However, is defense what Arsenal really needs?

Personally I don't think so. I think that Toure and Gallas or Djourou and Gallas can manage perfectly fine for Arsenal. Sagna and Clichy are the best at their positions in the premier league and defense isn't a problem. T

he Midfield isn't too bad but it needs some work. I think we need one signing to make the midfield good enough to contend for the title in the next couple of years.

That signing is Lorik Cana.

Cana, who is an Albanian International would be the perfect signing. He is CDM who is a excellent tackler and can be dangerous on corner kicks with his height. He can also help Arsenal while defending set pieces.

That seems where we always give up goals. You never see Arsenal get beat on a long run or a forward taking on our defense. Either a long comes ball over the top and we get beat or goals come of set pieces.

Cana would certainly help with this problem; while also controlling the middle of the field. He has great strength and great leadership. He is the captain of Marseille and has played internationally and in Champions League.

The real problem we seem to have this year is scoring. Usually Arsenal score a bountiful of goals, this year it doesn't seem to happen. Arsenal has scored 34 goals this season and at this rate Arsenal will be 10 goals short of last season 74 goals. So what has changed offensively?

Yes, Eduardo isn't around to score, but he only played because V. Persie was injured. V. Persie is scoring on a regular basis, so we can't use the Eduardo excuse. Flamini never scored for us, so we can use that excuse either. Hleb was the same way; Nasri is actually better because he scores.

Even Walcott has been scoring more this season, but he is now injured. Still, we can't use that excuse either because Arsenal had problems before Walcott's injury.

The problem is Emmanuel Adebayor.

He clearly is not interested during the games and it is obvious he does not want the be there. Although he is a very good player, Arsenal need to cash in on him. Today's game was a perfect example; Nasri's ball gave him a one on one with the goal, but he took too much time and had his shot blocked by a defender.

Last year he at least challenged the goalie; I can't say he would make it because we all know he is not a very good finisher. Last year he scored a lot of goals because he was very active and always looked for the ball. Thus he got numerous chances at goal and even though he missed about 75 percent of his chances, he managed 30 goals.

This season he doesn't seem to want the ball like he used to and it looks like he doesn't want to be at Arsenal.

Arsenal are hopefully going to sign Arshavin and gain that spark that Adebayor is not giving this year. Arshavin would without a doubt prove his worth because he wants to show the world his talent. Adebayor thinks he has shown the world his talent so he doesn't have that hunger to prove himself. Arshavin does.

If Arsenal get these two signings, with our current roster this would be the lineup that can succeed until our regulars return.

Almunia(gk), Sagna(rb), Toure(rcb) Gallas(lcb), Clichy(lb, Nasri(rm), Cana(rcm), Arshavin(lcm) Vela(lm), V.persie(ls), Adebayor(rs)

When Fabregas and Walcott comes back this lineup would be our best.

Almunia(gk), Sagna(rb), Toure(rcb) Gallas(lcb), Clichy(lb, Nasri(rm), Cana(rcm), Fabregas(lcm), Walcott(lm) V.persie(ls), Arshavin(rs)

Let me know what you guys think.
