Peyton Manning Rumors: Jets Expected to Have Interest in Signing Star QB

The New York Jets are reportedly going to make a run at likely free-agent-to-be Peyton Manning. 

Manning's availability on the free-agent market appears to be only a matter of time. ESPN's Chris Mortensen reported earlier that the Colts will announce on Wednesday that they are cutting ties with the legendary QB. 

The New York Post wasted no time letting it be known that the Jets will be interested in Manning when they shared the following information:

The Jets definitely will consider signing Manning, a source said Tuesday.

The source said the Jets need to see how healthy Manning is before deciding how aggressively they will pursue him. They are also wrestling with the idea of completely shaking up their franchise.

What This Means

The Jets are obviously looking to shake things up. If this report is true, it signals that they are not content with their current, inconsistent QB, Mark Sanchez. 

The addition of Manning would could be the end of Sanchez's time as a Jet. He would be a very pricey backup QB. 

Even if they don't sign Manning, the Jets are sending a message to Sanchez simply by publicizing their interest.

As the report indicates, the Jets need to see how healthy Manning is before deciding to pursue him.
