Lakers Rumors: Dealing for PG Kirk Hinrich Makes Most Sense

Eric BowmanJun 7, 2018

It's no secret the Los Angeles Lakers are in dire need of point guard help as the March 15 NBA trade deadline looms, and acquiring Kirk Hinrich is their best bet because they'll get solid talent for the cheap.

According to HoopsWorld NBA Writer Alex Kennedythe Lakers have been in contact with the Atlanta Hawks about Hinrich.

"

Los Angeles has also been pursuing Kirk Hinrich in recent weeks. The Lakers have been linked to Hinrich in the past and the Atlanta Hawks would move the veteran point guard if the right deal came along. The two teams have had conversations in recent weeks.

It's not going to cost much to get Hinrich, a veteran point guard with an expiring contact, therefore, the Lakers have to do the right thing and bring him in since he won't cost much.

The Lakers have been linked to Rajon Rondo and Kyle Lowry, but the price is entirely too high to get them. While they would be of tremendous help, it would cost L.A. too much, which is why they need to get Hinrich.

Dealing for Hinrich would ensure that the Lakers hang onto Pau Gasol, which would still keep L.A. at an elite level. Hinrich has the talent to contribute and he would greatly help the current rotation of Derek Fisher and Steve Blake.

Kennedy also writes about how the Lakers have been linked to Ramon Sessions, and while he is younger and has better stats, Hinrich will come at a smaller price and that's the right move for L.A. right now.

It makes the most sense for the Lakers to get a skilled player on the cheap just for this year and then put all the attention in free agency into finding a legitimate full-fledged starter.

Since Hinrich is a free agent at the end of the year, the Lakers can just hang onto him now and then forget about him at the end of the year.

Business is business and this is something Hinrich fully understands as he has bounced around the league.

Hinrich is a strong defender, which the Lakers would love. He can knock down the three when necessary, but everybody knows the team won't really need him to shoot much. The scoring is done by Kobe Bryant, Andrew Bynum and Gasol.

The former Kansas Jayhawk would certainly step his game up by joining the Lakers, and all they would ask of him is to be a facilitator and to use that lock down defense against the talented players of the Western Conference.
