Lenny Dykstra: Nails Continues to Prove He's Delusional in Face of Guilt

Timothy RappJun 6, 2018

With each passing day, Lenny Dykstra chips away at what little dignity he has left.

Even after being sentenced to three years in a state prison for grand theft auto and filing false financial statements in a scam to use a different identity in order to steal or lease cars (and pleading no contest to the charges), Dykstra remained defiant.

From Andrew Blankstein of the Los Angeles Times:

After she [the judge] rejected the plea withdrawal, Dykstra addressed the court, making a rambling and repetitive speech requesting leniency.

"Did I do something I'm not proud of? Yes," Dykstra said. "Am I a criminal? No."

During the statement, he apologized to his family and told the judge he had voluntarily entered drug rehab. He did not, however, apologize to the victims, including the man whose identity he stole in an effort to steal the cars.

"

You know what, Lenny?

Just apologize.

His credibility at this point is pretty suspect (that's being generous), and his string of indiscretions post-baseball is telling. Greg Risling of the Associated Press summed it up nicely:

"

Dykstra still faces federal bankruptcy charges and is scheduled to stand trial this summer. He filed for bankruptcy a few years ago, claiming he owed more than $31 million and had only $50,000 in assets. Federal prosecutors said that after filing, Dykstra hid, sold or destroyed more than $400,000 worth of items from the $18.5 million mansion without permission of a bankruptcy trustee.

"

But should we be surprised that Dykstra has cheated and stolen over the years? After all, he was named in the Mitchell Report—turns out that all of those good memories New York Mets' and Philadelphia Phillies' fans have of him were synthetic in nature.

So again, just apologize to the victims, Lenny. Acknowledge your guilt. Take some responsibility for your actions.

Or continue to be the punchline to a joke that gets darker and more twisted by the day.
