NBA Rumors: New Jersey Nets Re-Sign Gerald Green, Add Depth for Possible Trade?

Mike MoraitisJun 7, 2018

The New Jersey Nets have re-signed Gerald Green to another 10-day contract, according to Andy Vazquez of the Bergen Record. It is the second 10-day deal that Green has signed with the team, and it will almost ensure his permanent addition to this roster.

The Nets originally signed Green after he was shining in the D-League this season, averaging 19 points per game while shooting 48 percent from the field and almost 46 percent from beyond the arc.

In three games with New Jersey so far, Green is averaging almost eight points off the bench in 20 minutes on the floor.

New Jersey was smart to pluck Green from the D-League after needing depth following the numerous injuries the team has suffered so far this season. Green will give them NBA experience off the bench and allow MarShon Brooks to move into the starting five.

But with a possible Dwight Howard trade pending for the Nets, Green becomes even more valuable than originally thought.

With Brook Lopez's latest injury keeping him out three weeks, Orlando could try and hold up New Jersey for even more players than was thought to be necessary as a result of the risk factor of taking an injured player.

If that's the case, New Jersey's roster could be even more depleted beyond Lopez and their other most valuable asset, Brooks.

Green will find his role become more vital to this team if such a trade goes down, and may even become a part of the starting lineup at some point as well.
