SEC Tournament 2012: SEC Teams with Best Chances to Go Deep in NCAA Tourney

Alex KayMar 6, 2012

The SEC Tournament is Kentucky’s to lose, but a number of teams will get a chance to show their stuff and prepare for the only thing that actually matters in college basketball—the NCAA tournament.

Here’s a look at a few teams from the conference that have a chance to make a serious run into at least the second weekend of the competition.

This team is the favorite to win everything and not lose again.

Coach John Calipari has assembled a stacked roster loaded with NBA-caliber talent, and he knows how to get the absolute most out of them.

Their only loss this season came via a buzzer-beater in Indiana, and it’s going to take a miracle like that for them to fall again.

You can almost guarantee the Wildcats will be in the Final Four this year, and it will be tough to bet against them to not win a championship.

Florida

The Gators aren’t a team to be messed with in the tournament, and they are the best three-point-making squad in the country.

This team will fire up 25 attempts per game and knock down 9.9 per contest, making them capable of beating anyone at any time, especially in a tournament if they can catch fire.

Don’t ever count these guys out, even if they are down big, as their long-range abilities mean they are never truly done until the final buzzer sounds.

Vanderbilt

The Commodores have traditionally struggled in the tournament in recent years, but they have the experience and depth to finally make a run this season.

John Jenkins and Jeffery Taylor provide the leadership and two-headed scoring threat a team can thrive on in March.

They also have the range and knock down 8.8 threes per contest, which can be outright deadly in the "Big Dance."
