2012 NFL Draft Predictions: Projecting 7 Teams Most Likely to Trade Picks
The NFL has a lot of trades around this time of year between franchise players getting traded and draft picks being trade up and downs. Some of the most likely teams to trade are St. Louis, Cleveland, Washington, Philadelphia, New England, New Orleans and Miami. They could be trading for many reasons, but there will be picks involved with all of these teams.
St. Louis Rams
Whom they would trade with: The highest bidder for the No. 2 overall pick. More than likely this will be Cleveland but could also wind up as Washington. However, the highest bid will not be what they think it will be at this point.
Why they would trade: The Rams need more talent than they have picks. They would do best to get an infusion with new coach Jeff Fisher, and Fisher is the kind of guy who loves having as many picks as possible.
What the projected trade could be: St. Louis sends No. 2 overall to Cleveland for No. 4 overall and No. 37 overall.
Cleveland Browns
Whom they would trade with: St. Louis in a trade up for the No. 2 pick. They don't have a franchise QB and the hallmark of the NFL is if you don't have a franchise QB, you draft, trade or sign for one.
Why they would trade: They need a franchise QB and Robert Griffin III is a true franchise QB. He's a mix of Michael Vick and Alex Smith as a prospect. His size and speed is unheard of for a quarterback and his passing ability matches his rushing ability.
What the projected trade could be: St. Louis sends No. 2 overall to Cleveland for No. 4 overall and No. 37 overall.
Washington Redskins
Whom they would trade with: St. Louis Rams to get their franchise quarterback.
Why they would trade: They started Rex Grossman in 2011. They need a franchise quarterback in the worst way. Washington would be best served to move up for Robert Griffin III.
What the projected trade could be: St. Louis sends No. 2 overall to Washington for No. 6 overall and 2013 first-round pick.
Philadelphia Eagles
Whom they would trade with: Anyone who needs a WR. They could be looking to trade troublesome WR and franchise player DeSean Jackson
Why they would trade: Jackson is too much trouble for his production on the field and Philadelphia could be looking into trading him away for some picks or even in a player for player swap. His value is right around the mid-second or early third round.
What the projected trade could be: Philadelphia sends DeSean Jackson to the Chicago Bears for the Bears' second-round pick.
New England Patriots
Whom they would trade with: Any team looking to give up a first-round pick in the next year and a pick in the current year just to get its guy.
Why they would trade: They do it every year. It's a smart trade to get a first-rounder in a future year and turn it into a starter or another first-rounder.
What the projected trade could be: New England trades pick No. 31 to Washington for Washington's third-rounder and next year's first so that Washington can select a QB.
New Orleans Saints
Whom they would trade with: Any team that wants its first-round pick next year for a first-rounder this year.
Why they would trade: Without a first-round pick and with the boom about to come down on them from Roger Goodell, they need to get rid of their first-round pick before it gets forfeited. The Saints would be a great fit for the Patriots' love for trading for future first-rounders.
What the projected trade could be: New England trades pick No. 31 to the Saints for their 2013 first-round pick.
Miami Dolphins
Whom they would trade with: St. Louis Rams for Robert Griffin III or even Matt Kalil.
Why they would trade: The Dolphins could lose out to Cleveland or Washington for Matt Flynn and would be in the Robert Griffin III sweepstakes at that point. However, as of now the Dolphins are looking into signing Flynn and reuniting him with coach Joe Philbin.
What the projected trade could be: Miami trades No. 8 overall and next year's first-rounder to the Rams for No. 2.
