Peyton Manning Rumors: Best Fits for Manning and Reggie Wayne Reuniting

Jeff ChaseJun 7, 2018

As March 8 approaches, the future of Indianapolis Colts' four-time MVP quarterback Peyton Manning will become much clearer, and perhaps as well a the future for Pro Bowl wide receiver Reggie Wayne.

The offensive duo has been at it since 2001, and with Wayne ready to hit the free-agent market, it doesn't look as if the two want to end the relationship now.

According to Sports Illustrated's Peter King, the two budding stars could potentially end up together in another city, and would be able to continue to dominate secondaries for years to come.

Such a pairing would not only be a plus for Manning, who would love to see it happen, according to one NFL source.

But also it would allow him to go to his new team with one familiar receiving face, and if you can say one thing about Manning, it's that he loves familiarity, particularly in how his receivers anticipate throws and the precision of their route-running.

While any team could clearly become much better by adding the two, some could be putting themselves over the top by adding the dynamic duo.

Miami Dolphins

With receiver Brandon Marshall and dynamic running back Reggie Bush already on the team, the addition of Wayne and Manning could put the Dolphins immediately in consideration to contend in the AFC East.

It is going to take a lot to compete with the likes of the New England Patriots and New York Jets, as well as the Buffalo Bills, but that combination with the playmaking of new head coach Joe Philbin could put the Dolphins above the rest.

They would have two great downfield options, as well as a back who has proven he can run out of the backfield, as well as being able to catch screen passes to make big plays happen.

Of course, the Dolphins may not have the flexibility to spread the wealth like that, so bringing in both would definitely be running things close to their cap space.

This situation still seems iffy for a possible Manning destination, given that the team traded for Kevin Kolb last season. Not to mention, they also gave him a nice $29 million contract with $21 million guaranteed.

That puts the team in a tough boat, but could you imagine an offense of Manning, Wayne, Larry Fitzgerald and heck, even Beanie Wells?

The Cardinals could quickly return to glory, although the division has become much more competitive since those days.

This would give the Cardinals their first all-around team since they had Warner, Fitz, Anquan Boldin and running back Edgerrin James.

It would definitely make the team much scarier, and potentially a threat to take the NFC West from the new kings of the division, the San Francisco 49ers.

As mentioned, it just seems like a longshot given the Kolb situation.

The Chiefs are another one of those teams that have a great receiver and great running back, but not anything special under center.

With receiver Dwayne Bowe and running back Jamal Charles ready to bounce back after missing almost the entire 2011 season, the Chiefs could be in position to dominate the AFC West.

Considering how winnable that division is at this point in time, the addition of Manning and Wayne with those two others would make the Chiefs clear favorites to take the division before the season would even start.

The team may have to find a way to move Matt Cassel, but he could be a fine backup given Manning's past health issues.
