ACC Tournament 2012: North Carolina Tar Heels Will Steamroll Competition

Gabe ZaldivarJun 7, 2018

Call them Goliaths or just plain favorites, the North Carolina Tar Heels are entering the 2012 ACC tournament with absolutely nothing to worry about.

This would be the perfect time to savor every last second of the next week. If you are a North Carolina fan that is.

It's not often that the chasm in talent and form is as wide between the top of the ACC and those directly under it, but that is exactly where North Carolina finds themselves before the conference tourney.

One good turn deserved another, or rather, one epic buzzer-beater deserved a whopping of epic proportions.

North Carolina shouldn't be in the sending messages business, because they have much bigger fish to fry at the end of this month.

I will excuse the shellacking they gave to Duke because that was what was needed before we head into the conference tournament.

It was a huge message, bigger than anything that could be placed on a jumbotron. Duke has a great deal of maturing to do, and North Carolina is in much better form right now.

There are a couple ways to take the ACC tournament; you can either be the best team or you can be the hottest.

Unfortunately for the field, the Tar Heels happen to be both.

North Carolina has garnered seven straight wins since that fateful day that Austin Rivers sank a miraculous shot.

The moment left North Carolina far more hungry and with the taste of a team that had just been dismissed by a lesser team. That is a taste they dare not suffer through again.

Since that winning streak, only two teams have come within 10 points of the Tar Heels, and the latest is the signal that the upcoming tourney is all but wrapped up.

UNC led by as much as 26 points on their way to their Duke drubbing. They forced Duke to shoot 41 percent from the field while the cruised to 55 percent.

Those discrepancies signal North Carolina is heating up at the right time and have the dedication to see out a conference title.

North Carolina is on a roll and it is not about stop at the ACC tournament.
