World Football Goals of the Weekend: Ashley Young, Hulk, Seydou Keita, RvP

Michael CummingsMar 5, 2012

Don't let a case of the Mondays get you down. We've got your pick-me-up right here.

The weekend may be over, but you can relive all the best goals right here in one convenient place. Some of them you're probably familiar with already, like Ashley Young's curler for Manchester United against Spurs. Others you may not have seen yet.

One thing is true for all of them, though: They were pretty dang awesome.

Have any more? Leave a comment.

Ashley Young

1 of 15

Ashley Young gets us started with Manchester United's third goal in a 3-1 win over Spurs at White Hart Lane on Sunday.

It was a classy curled shot that harkened back to Young's strike against Arsenal last August.

Robin van Persie

2 of 15

Liverpool dominated Arsenal on Saturday, but with one touch in the 92nd minute, Robin van Persie handed the visitors a valuable 2-1 win.

Have a look for yourself.

Zlatan Ibrahimovic

3 of 15

If any striker can rival RvP right now, it's AC Milan's Zlatan Ibrahimovic.

The tall Swede hit a hat trick Saturday for the Rossoneri against Palermo. In the video at left you can see the first two goals. Here's a link to his third—which for our money was his best.

Hulk

4 of 15

Porto came from 2-1 down to claim a big 3-2 victory at Benfica on Friday. The win sent Porto to the top of the Portuguese table.

Hulk's goal in the seventh minute was the highlight. Look how hard he hits the ball to the top corner at the near post.

Alexandru Buhusi

5 of 15

This is 21-year-old Romanian striker Alexandru Buhusi scoring an outrageous goal for Petrolui Ploiesti in the Romanian Liga I.

Believe it or not, that might not have been the best goal from the match.

Nicolae Stanciu

6 of 15

This goal, from the same match, might have been better. To see it, fast-forward to the 1:45 mark.

That's Nicolae Stanciu of Vaslui scoring a screamer despite losing his balance while working past multiple defenders.

Miroslav Stoch

7 of 15

We love sweetly struck volleys, and we bet you do too.

Here's a fine example from Fenerbahce's Miroslav Stoch against Genclerbirgili on Saturday.

That's a heck of a strike.

Gaston Merlo

8 of 15

We had never heard of Vietnamese club Da Nang or Gaston Merlo, their Argentine striker, before this weekend.

But after watching this goal from Saturday's match against Binh Duong, we won't forget either anytime soon.

Lorenzo Ebecilio

9 of 15

Lorenzo Ebecilio, a 20-year-old Dutch striker, scored a second-half hat trick for Ajax on Sunday against Roda JC. Ebecilio's three goals helped Ajax overturn a 1-0 halftime deficit.

We liked Ebecilio's second goal best. What about you?

Jorge Wagner

10 of 15

If you're like us, you're not terribly familiar with Japan's J. League. This is a goal you'll want to familiarize yourself with, though.

That's Brazilian midfielder Jorge Wagner with a crazy long-distance strike for Kashiwa Reysol against FC Tokyo.

Jordi Xumetra

11 of 15

But that wasn't even far out compared to Jordi Xumetra's goal for Elche against Almeria on Sunday in the Spanish Segunda Divisíon.

Yeah, he hit that shot from his own side of the center circle. Unbelievable.

Seydou Keita

12 of 15

For a short time Saturday, Barcelona were in trouble at home against Sporting Gijon.

Gerard Piqué was sent off just after halftime, and the visitors equalized moments later. But then Malian midfielder Seydou Keita lofted home this spectacular winner from the edge of the box.

Xavi added a third in the 87th minute to give Barca a 3-1 win.

Hernan Barcos

13 of 15

Argentine forward Hernan Barcos has earned the nickname el Pirata (you figure it out) for goals like this over the years.

This one was the Pirate's second in Palmeiras' 3-1 win over Linense on Thursday in the Brazilian league.

Dang, he made that defender look silly.

Gylfi Sigurdsson

14 of 15

The video at left gives a great view of Iceland midfielder Gylfi Sigurdsson's second goal for Swansea City against Wigan on Saturday.

Here's a link to his first goal, which we think was even better.

Is it way past time to say Sigurdsson has been an excellent loan signing for Swansea?

Fredy Montero

15 of 15

Finally, here's Colombian forward Fredy Montero of the Seattle Sounders scoring with a chip against Jaguares on Thursday in a preseason tune-up.

Cheeky.
