UNC Basketball: Tar Heels Will Ride Late-Season Momentum to Championship

Kyle VassaloMar 5, 2012

After torching Duke, UNC proved that they are the team everyone thought they were coming into the season. Though it hasn't been smooth sailing for the Tar Heels, they're getting hot at the perfect time and will ride their momentum to a championship.

North Carolina is the most dangerous team in the tournament. They have the coach, they've got the same talent that had experts salivating coming into the season and they took the ACC to close out the season.

This isn't the same team that lost to UNLV in November. This is a team that knows how to respond to adversity, and the best part about their production is that it doesn't rest solely on any one player.

Harrison Barnes is a great talent, and with a team-high 17.4 PPG, he'll undoubtedly play a huge role in March.

That doesn't mean it's a one-man show, though. Kendall Marshall's 20-point game en route to a double-double and blowout win proves that the Tar Heels have a number of players who can torch the opposition.

And that's what makes a team lethal in March. Kentucky, Syracuse and the presumed top seeds are obviously going to be picked by the masses to win it all, but the Tar Heels flying under the radar are the team nobody should want to play.

Being under the radar and relatively forgotten will only bolster UNC's chances of taking it all. It's clear the Austin Rivers buzzer-beater put a chip on the Tar Heels' shoulder, and their 88-70 win in Duke's house proves they'll carry that edge with them all the way to an NCAA Championship.
