Boston Celtics Trade Rumors: Rajon Rondo's Epic Game Makes Him Untouchable

Alex KayMar 5, 2012

The Boston Celtics can no longer even consider trading Rajon Rondo after his incredible 18-point, 17-rebound, 20-assist performance in an overtime win against the New York Knicks.

It would be absurd for the C’s to move a player who can be that productive and single-handedly take a game over in every possible way.

GM Danny Ainge was reportedly “aggressively shopping” his superstar point guard up until this game.

It was just plain foolish of the C’s brass to try and move a player who is by far their best young asset and currently locked in an extremely affordable contract.

Rondo only makes $10 million this season and $46M total through 2014-15.

To call it a bargain would be an understatement. This is a guy who has put up four triple-doubles this year and reached that mark two times in the past three games.

The 26-year-old All-Star was clearly upset with all the trade rumors surrounding him and, although he wouldn’t publicly state it, he took out his frustration against Jeremy Lin and the Knicks.

He took a more humble route during his press conference, although his play on the court was anything but.

"It was a great team win for us," Rondo said. "I was trying to make some great play-calling and it turned out that my numbers showed up."

Kevin Garnett knew the guard was going to go off before the game even started, according to ESPN Boston’s Jackie MacMullan.

"

Garnett made a mental note of Rondo's resolve when the notoriously tardy Celtic was the first or second player to arrive before the game.

"If you know Rondo, you know he's an 'I'll show you' kind of player," Garnett observed. "This game had enough juice on it to be the kind he's interested in."

"

If fans, analysts and even his own team keep doubting the triple-double machine, you can bet Rondo is only going to get better as the lights get brighter when the postseason rolls around.

He’s definitely someone the Celtics need on their side if they want to make one last championship push in the Big Three era.
