Rajon Rondo Trade Rumors: Celtics' Asking Price Will Keep PG in Boston
Rajon Rondo has been at the center of trade rumors all year, but he is not going to be going anywhere. The Celtics want way too much for their young guard.
The Celtics are also increasingly finding more reasons to keep a high asking price. They are winning. Boston has run four games in a row, and they are now in seventh place in the Eastern Conference.
That gives them the luxury of being far more selective with trade offers than the team that lost seven of eight prior to this four-game winning streak.
The Sports Xchange, on CBS Sports, relayed the following rumor that highlights what it would take to pry Rondo from Boston.
"A source told the Boston Herald the Celts are being very selective in what they'd want for Rondo.
"Are there five guys in the NBA they might trade him for?" he said. "If you're talking (Russell) Westbrook, Chris Paul or Deron Williams, then you have something to think about."
"
These demands guarantee that Rondo will remain a Celtic.
Rondo is an elite-level point guard. There is no doubting this, but his reputation as a moody malcontent limits what teams are willing to offer.
This means the Celtics are not going to get an equal on-court value for Rondo. To trade him, they would have to be willing to accept less value just to rid themselves of any negatives Rondo brings, and with the team's recent winning streak, they have little motivation to do so.
