WrestleMania 28: John Cena Must Screw The Rock over in Main Event
The Rock is not working full-time for WWE anymore, which means it would make no sense for him to defeat John Cena in the WrestleMania main event.
In the past, these legends vs. current stars matches have been used as a symbolic passing of the torch. I mean, Hulk Hogan actually agreed to lose to The Rock at WrestleMania 18, though the Hulkster did make sure that he was the star of the show after the match.
There is going to be a strong contingent of fans that feel like Rock should win the match.
They are not necessarily wrong, but it would not do a lot of good to have him win on the biggest stage WWE has to offer, only to lose against Cena at SummerSlam, or whenever a rematch could potentially take place.
Cena is going into WrestleMania as the heel, whether Vince McMahon realizes it or not. WWE is trying its best to get the fans to turn against Rock with little success thus far, and the crowd in Miami is not going to boo the hometown star who is wrestling his first singles match in nine years.
So, what better time for Cena to win a match in questionable fashion than at WrestleMania?
Think about it: Not only does Cena go over, but Rock can make the case that he should have won if everything was even.
WWE can set up a three-match series between these two superstars that will take them to the rest of this year and, possibly, WrestleMania 29.
Even if it doesn't set up a series, it would still make Rock look strong and Cena would get the win that he needs to keep his new, edgy persona going.
Rock is going to be a superstar no matter what the outcome of this match.
He has his movie career that is going to be his top priority after April 1--no, that's not me pulling a Cena and complaining about it.
Cena, on the other hand, is staying in WWE. He told us that after this event is over, he is going to be there every single week. To rebuild his white-knight reputation, he has to go over a true star that can make him look even better in the eyes of the fans.
Since there are no stars in WWE for him to do that, Rock has to be the sacrificial lamb. It makes perfect sense to have the match end with Cena going over in controversial fashion.
