Fantasy Basketball: Grant Hill Continues to Churn
The way Grant Hill has been playing of late, it’s easy to forget that he is 39. Considering the injury history that Hill had, nobody could have expected that he would still be going. Clearly he has changed his perception and removed any doubt that he loves the game of basketball.
Hill isn’t just a feel-good story, though. He’s been a capable fantasy option despite the condensed season, which isn’t ideal for a player Grant’s age. He’s averaging 10.1 points, 3.5 rebounds, 2.1 assists, 0.7 steals, 0.7 blocks and 0.4 three-pointers. His field-goal percentage is at 43.1, which is significantly less than his career average of 48.4, is his one down side.
Lately, though, Hill has been even better. Over his past five games he’s averaging 15.2 points, 3.6 rebounds, 3.0 assists, 1.0 block, 0.6 steals and 0.2 three-pointers. His field-goal percentage still isn’t quite there at 44.4 percent, but it’s slightly better than his season average. He has drained a third of his three-pointers and knocked down 73.1 percent of his free throws during the stretch.
Not the numbers he delivered during the height of his career, but numbers that are useful to fantasy owners.
Hill is owned in 25.0 percent of Yahoo! and 11.8 percent of ESPN leagues. He has a little more value in Yahoo! leagues because he has PF eligibility to go along with his normal SF eligibility. Hill doesn’t have much upside. You know what you’re going to get from him. If you need some across-the-board help, Hill is worth a look.
