UNC vs Duke Predictions: Blue Devils' Shooters Will Lock Up Season Sweep

Michael DixonMar 3, 2012

Prepare to see Duke shoot the lights out at Cameron Indoor Stadium tonight when they host North Carolina. When that game is over, the Blue Devils' outside shooting will take them to another win against their rivals.

If Duke could knock down 14 three-pointers while playing in enemy territory, there is absolutely no telling how many they will hit playing tonight at home.

That logic is only flawed in games that where the home team is at risk of coming out flat, or falling into a trap. If we were talking about one of the weaker teams in the ACC, I wouldn't be so confident.

But the fact of the matter is that UNC is also one of the top teams in the country. This is also the last regular season game for Duke, and senior night. Teams don't usually come out complacent in those spots. More important than any of that is that this game is against North Carolina, their arch rivals.

So, Duke is going to come out of the blocks fired up, ready to go. Simply put, they are going to shoot the lights out. The Blue Devils won't win on the inside.

Look for a better game out of Austin Rivers than we saw at Chapel Hill. If you're a fan of the Tar Heels, that is a frightening thought, as Rivers was pretty good in that game. He already had 26 and was the game's leading scorer before this happened.

But this goes beyond just Rivers. Despite scoring 85 points in that game, Duke could have done a lot better. Ryan Kelly made only one three-pointer. Tyler Thornton, a guard, was only 1-of-6 from behind the arc. So, from those two combined, Duke was 2-for-13 from three-point land. They will be much better today playing in front of the home fans.

Seth Curry will be another important player to watch. We know that the Curry boys can shoot, but he was only 50 percent from the field in the first game between the two teams. That is going to be much better. As a result, he will account for more than 15 points.

The Blue Devils' outside shooting was good in the first meeting, but it could have been better. Tonight, it will be and they will claim the season sweep of the season series.

Prediction: Duke 81, UNC 77
