Gulfstream Racetrack: Grade 3 Canadian Turf
Little Mike is the 2-1 morning-line favorite for good reason. This five year-old has won his last four races and should be able to dictate the pace from start to finish.
The one horse that I think can beat Little Mike is Data Link, the Claude McGaughey-trained four-year-old. With four wins in his last five starts, he appears to be in fantastic form. His only loss was on a soft turf. With the turf predicted to be firm, I like him.
A few other horses caught my eye that I think can make the triple and superfecta wagering very interesting.
Doubles Partner is going to close, but I'm not sure the one-mile distance is right for this Todd Pletcher-trained horse. Four wins in seven career turf races is why I'm not disregarding this horse.
Perfect Footprint is 20-1 and is my long-shot special. This horse hasn't run that well in his last four races but is undefeated in two career starts at eight furlongs.
Mutual Trust is the dark horse in this race. Bill Mott sends out this lightly raced four-year-old shipper. He appears in good form. He has three wins at one mile on the firm turf and is getting Lasix for the second time.
With little speed in this eight-horse field, Little Mike should get a dream ride from Joe Bravo and win this $150,000 race comfortably. Little Mike is 6-for-7 at the distance. Even with the added two pounds, he should win easily.
I will be using Data Link, Mutual Trust and Perfect Footprint behind him in my trifecta wagering. The turf at Gulfstream has been really firm lately, so I won't be shocked if this race is run in under 1:34.
