Randy Moss Returns to NFL: What Teams Could Consider Signing Him?

Old AccountJun 7, 2018

Randy Moss is making his return to the NFL and is beginning with a tryout from a team next week.

Mike Florio of ProFootballTalk.com reports  that Moss is set to begin visiting teams next week. There is at least one unnamed team that will put him through a tryout to see if Moss still has 4.3 speed.

There are many teams that are in the hunt for a wide receiver. With Moss' price tag expected to be lower than the other top-tier free agents, one team will take a chance on him.

What team will take that chance? There are five likely suitors that could pursue the future Hall of Famer.

5. New England Patriots

In Randy Moss' opinion, his biggest regret was abruptly forcing his way out of New England.

Not only was this Randy's best opportunity to win, but he realizes the opportunity to play with Tom Brady doesn't come around too often.

It appears to be a foregone conclusion that the Patriots won't re-sign Moss. However, if Moss does indeed run a 4.3 ( or something close to it), Bill Belichick would be making a mistake not pulling the trigger.

With a rejuvenated Moss, there is no question the Patriots offense would improve.

4. Baltimore Ravens

2 of 5

The Baltimore Ravens could become a potential target for Randy Moss. History may tell us that Ozzie Newsome will turn to the NFL draft to find a wide receiver.

However, Moss would bring a new dimension to the Ravens offense. He could become a new threat on the outside that would create more opportunities for Torrey Smith and Anquan Boldin.

His height would create major mismatches for opposing secondaries in the red zone, where the Ravens offense struggled last season.

Moss would join a Ravens locker room that is arguably the best in football. The leadership of Ray Lewis and Terrell Suggs would keep Moss in check while having him play to his potential.

3. Washington Redskins

3 of 5

The Washington Redskins are in need of multiple upgrades within the offense.

While it appears that the Redskins will add a new quarterback, another wide receiver could be used alongside Santana Moss.

Randy Moss could potentially play the role as a number one receiver, especially if he hasn't lost any of his speed.

The Redskins need offensive firepower in the competitive NFC East. The addition of Randy Moss could make the offense more respectable.

2. Chicago Bears

4 of 5

The Chicago Bears have lacked a quality wide receiver for quite some time.

Devin Hester and Johnny Knox have proven that they don't have the ability to become a "number one caliber" receiver.

Randy Moss would be an ideal fit for quarterback Jay Cutler. He can allow Cutler to use his arm strength to his advantage, and take advantage of the weak secondaries in the NFC North.

Moss would fit well under new offensive coordinator Mike Tice, who coached Moss while he was with the Vikings.

1. New York Jets

5 of 5

The New York Jets have the biggest connection to Randy Moss since his return to the NFL.

With the Jets parting with Plaxico Burress, Randy Moss appears to be their primary target in free agency.

Mark Sanchez did not perform well without Braylon Edwards in the mix. Hopefully, Moss could produce in a similar fashion if they signed the veteran wide receiver.
