UFC on FX 2 Results: What We Learned from Anthony Perosh vs. Nick Penner

Vince CareyJun 5, 2018

What We’ll Remember About This Fight

Anthony Perosh is a bad dude if the fight hits the mat.

In a battle between two light heavyweights looking to make a statement in the division, Perosh looked like he was on a completely different level and dominated the majority of the bout.

Perosh and Nick Penner looked relatively even on the feet, but Perosh took the fight to the mat and quickly gained the mount.

From there it was elementary, as Perosh landed a plethora of punches and finished the fight as time expired in the first round.

What We Learned About Perosh

Perosh looks like a completely different fighter at 205 than he did at heavyweight, and he’s now scored three straight wins inside the Octagon.

Perosh has a sick ground game and if he keeps taking guys down, he’s going to quickly move up the ladder in the light heavyweight division.

After winning his last two fights by submission, Perosh showed off his ability to finish the fight with ground-and-pound in this one, and he is likely going to get a decent step up in competition in his next bout.

What We Learned About Penner

Riding a long win streak going into your UFC debut usually opens some eyes, but Penner looked like he didn’t belong in the same cage as Perosh.

Penner was completely outmatched when the fight hit the ground, and he is going to have to improve his ground game by leaps and bounds if he wants to be competitive in the UFC.

What’s Next for Perosh

A fight against another established veteran Vladimir Matyushenko would be a good matchup for both men.

What’s Next for Penner

The loser of tonight’s fight between Aaron Rosa and James Te Huna would probably make a lot of sense for Penner.
