Fantasy Football Playoff Rankings: Tight Ends (Divisional Round)

Michael WhooleyJan 9, 2009

Just because the regular season in the NFL is over, it doesn't mean you can't play fantasy football. With that in mind, we started up a fantasy football playoff contest in which you can compete against the Bruno Boys staff for FREE PRIZES. Even with the first round of the playoffs being over, it's never to late to participate in the fantasy playoff contest.

The winner of the playoff contest will receive a $25 gift card of their choice, while second place will receive a $15 gift card of their choice, and third place will receive a $10 gift card of their choice.

To help the Bruno Boys Nation win FREE PRIZES, we bring to you the Divisional Round Tight End Rankings.

--------------------

1. Heath Miller (Pittsburgh Steelers)  vs. San Diego

It's safe to say that Miller is emerging at the right time for the Steelers. He has 13 receptions over his last two games and has been used as a great check down receiver for quarterback Ben Roethlisberger of late. Plus, you can't have a better matchup on the board, as the Chargers finished the season ranked 31st in the NFL against the pass.

On top of that, they allowed over 70 receiving yards per game and 10+ fantasy points per game to the tight end position. Even if Miller doesn't score a touchdown in this game (we think he scores), his 60-70 receiving yards should be enough to make him the top play of the week.

Point Projection: 12 points

2. Kevin Boss (New York Giants) vs. Philadelphia

We don't like Boss as a yardage play this week, so if you're the type of fantasy owner that wants a steady 40-50 receiving yards out of your tight end, he might not be the answer.

However, Boss (six receptions, 69 yards, TD) had a coming out party in a previous meeting with the Eagles, has scored a touchdown in six of his last 12 games and he is the Giants primary target in the red zone. Bottom line, Boss has just about the best chance (see: Heath Miller) out of any TE to score this week.

Point Projection: Nine points

--------------------

3. Antonio Gates (San Diego Chargers) @ Pittsburgh

Gates had eight receptions for 87 receiving yards last week and seemed to have a nice rapport brewing with quarterback Philip Rivers. Both of those totals led to his best production since the middle of the season and have his fantasy payoff owners ready to use him this week.

However, the Steelers defense is stingy against the tight end and limited Gates to 10 receiving yards in Week 11. There isn't enough in the talent pool to not play him, but don't be surprised if he has another lackluster showing in Pittsburgh.

Point Projection: Six points
