2009 Fantasy Football One-Man Mock Draft (Round One)
With the 2008 fantasy football season being over, the time has come that we start delivering 2009 fantasy football mock drafts.
Below, you will find the first round of a one-man mock draft, in which Bruno Boys Cory Steger went to the crystal ball and forecasted his thoughts on what things would look like if we drafted for 2009 today.
Scoring used to compile Mock Draft results:
6 Points - All TD's
1 Point - 25 passing yards
1 Point - 10 rushing/receiving yards
--------------------
1.01: Adrian Peterson, RB (Minnesota Vikings)
Was there really much of a question as to who’s going to take the top spot next season? Minnesota Vikings running Adrian Peterson followed up his stellar rookie season by rushing for 1,760 yards and 10 touchdowns on 363 carries.

He also caught 21 passes for 125 yards. As long as the play of the quarterback improves even a little, Peterson could come close to 2,000 yards next season.
1.02: Michael Turner, RB (Atlanta Falcons)
Fresh out of the shadow of San Diego Chargers running back LaDainian Tomlinson, Atlanta Falcons running back Michael Turner got his chance to shine this season and did. Turner led the league in carries with 376, gained 1,699 yards and scored 17 touchdowns.
Turner has a solid offensive line in front of him and will continue to get better as his quarterback, rookie Matt Ryan continues to develop.
1.03: DeAngelo Williams, RB (Carolina Panthers)
Carolina Panthers running DeAngelo Williams didn’t have a 100-yard game or a rushing touchdown until the fifth week of the season. But the team recommitted to the running game and Williams finished the season strong with three 30-point fantasy performances and two four-touchdown games.
The only thing hurting Williams’ value in 2009 is that he shares carries with backup Jonathan Stewart, who may actually be the more talented runner. Still, as long as Williams receives 300 touches, and he will, he’s worth a high first-round pick.
1.04: Drew Brees, QB (New Orleans Saints)
New Orleans Saints quarterback Drew Brees continues to get better every season. Brees threw for a career-high 5,069 yards, just 16 short of tying Dan Marino’s single-season record, with 34 touchdowns and 17 interceptions.
Running back Reggie Bush will be coming off microfracture knee surgery and fellow runner Deuce McAllister is on the down side of his career.
We know that Pierre Thomas is the future RB in New Orleans, but Brees will again be asked to throw the ball a lot and is clearly the top fantasy quarterback for 2009.
1.05: Matt Forte, RB (Chicago Bears)
Darren McFadden, Felix Jones, Rashard Mendenhall, and Jonathan Stewart were the hot names at running back in last year’s NFL Draft, but it was Matt Forte of the Chicago Bears who was the top first-year runner last season.
Forte finished with 1,238 yards and eight touchdowns on 316 carries and he added 63 receptions for 477 yards and four touchdowns. With no viable backup behind him and no good quarterback on the team, Forte will be a key part of the team’s offense next season.
