Miami Heat Rumors: Recapping the Latest News and Speculation

Matt ShetlerJun 7, 2018

It's been a good start to the 2012 season for the Miami Heat.

Off to a 28-7 start, winners of nine straight games and the prohibited favorite to win the NBA championship, the Heat seem to have everything going their way.

But are the Heat still one piece away from getting LeBron James that elusive ring?

That remains to be seen, but Miami is one team worth watching as the March 15 trade deadline rapidly approaches.

Here's the latest updates surrounding the Heat and what Pat Riley possibly has up his sleeve.

Chris Anderson

Ira Winderman of the South Florida Sun Sentinel thinks Anderson could be targeted by the Heat by the trade deadline.

The Birdman isn't getting much run in Denver, but he's very active on the glass and block shots, something the Heat can't have enough of after last season's NBA Finals.

His $4.2 million salary means luxury tax for the Heat, but if they are prepared to do that financially, Anderson could likely be had for a couple of minimum contracts.

Chris Kaman

Kaman could be a great fit in Miami, but while FoxSports.com's Chris Tomasson reports that the Heat are still interested, don't expect a deal to be made.

The problem is that Kaman makes $14 million, meaning it would be next to impossible to acquire him without trading one of the Big Three or crippling the bench by dealing Udonis Haslem and Mike Miller.

If the Heat are going to make a run at Kaman, they are going to have to be patient and hope he's bought out by the New Orleans Hornets and then attempt to sign him after that.

Mike James

Winderman thinks that it could be smart for the Heat to consider recently-released point guard Mike James for depth purposes.

James played in seven games for the Chicago Bulls while Derrick Rose was injured and averaged 6.1 PPG and 3.6 APG.

One problem with this scenario, though, is that James may have burned some bridges during his previous stint in Miami, and there really aren't many minutes available behind Mario Chalmers and Norris Cole to really interest James.

Mike Miller

To acquire any talent at all for the stretch run, it means bringing in salary. That's something the Heat really can't do, and to bring in salary, they have to send salary out as well.

That makes Mike Miller's $5.4 million and Udonis Haslem's $3.78 million salaries for the season attractive to teams.

But Winderman says the Heat won't consider dealing either guy, as they don't want to break up their effective bench.
