NFL Combine 2012: 2 Guys Who Could Sneak into First Round, Post-Combine Edition
Based on their strong showings in front of droves of scouts, head coaches and general managers at the NFL Scouting Combine, these two players have a realistic chance to be picked in Round 1.
The Under Armour Olympics aren't the most important aspect of evaluating a prospect, but draft stocks certainly change following the yearly exhibition.
Stephen Hill, WR, Georgia Tech
After averaging 30 yards per catch in a run-dominated offense at Georgia Tech, the 6'4'', 215-pound Hill was certainly an intriguing prospect entering the combine workouts.
Teams wanted to see him as an athlete.
As it turns out, Hill is undoubtedly quite athletic.
He ran an official 4.36 in the 40-yard dash and surprisingly displayed soft hands in the on-field drills. He even made a diving catch on a long ball.
Hill is the epitome of a raw prospect, who will need to be coached on how to beat press coverage at the line and run more complex and intricate routes.
Although he'll mainly be called upon to stretch the defense with a basic go route, he'll need to become more well-rounded as a receiver if he is to be successful in the NFL.
That being said, Hill possesses things you can't coach; size, speed and freakish athletic ability.
He could sneak into the late stages of the first-round.
Doug Martin, RB, Boise State
I'm not an advocate of drafting a running back in the first round, but I won't be making picks for any teams in April.
If there's any runner that may be taken in Round 1 besides Alabama's Trent Richardson, it's Boise State's Doug Martin.
At the combine, he ran a respectable 4.55 in the 40-yard dash at 223 pounds and had a staggering 36-inch vertical leap.
Martin did it all for the perennial underdog powerhouse Broncos over the last three years, too.
He eclipsed the 1,200-yard mark on the ground in each of the last two seasons and caught a total of 56 passes during that stretch.
He also returned kicks.
Martin's experience at the running back position, his versatility out of the backfield and impressive effort inside Lucas Oil Stadium gives him a legitimate shot at being picked in the first round on April 26.
